Default Source for obsolete tool parts?

Cleaned out the storage unit and want to refurbish some of my dad's vintage power tools. In particular, I'm looking for spindles for a State B-4 spindle sander (circa 1956?) --the metal shafts with the rubber -- not the actual abrasive sleeves, which I have. Search of the 'net looks like they were making the machine fairly recently, but I'll need to pursue leads over the phone.

Also have an old Delta Homecraft disc sander that takes 8-1/2inch discs. All the abrasive suppliers I've checked have 6" or 12" but not this orphan size. Anybody know if I can trim a 12" self-adhesive disc and have it work?

It was kind of like Christmas going through all the old stuff. Dad even had an NIB Sperry gunsight compensator for the waist guns on WWII bombers. Basically used to adjust the sighting to take into account elevation and airspeed. Pretty need.

You can cut the disks down to fit. I know because I use a disk grinder at my present job (finish man at a machine shop) we use 5 inch disks from 3M but had to cut down 7 inch disks when the former purchasing guy decided to get lazy!
Just a thought here but you might want to contact 3M and see if they can help you out. Dale

yes you can cut down the paper to fit the disc . I think that Harbor Freight might carry the size you need . I have glued regular sand paper to my sander disk , I use a glue that body shops use made by 3M think its called disk adhesive . it allows the sand paper to be peeled off and a new piece to be stuck on
