Dash numbers for 5906?
Are there the equivalent of dash numbers for the 5906? Are they ever marked on the gun? I was looking at the SCS&W (2nd) and see it's not covered there. Thanks

Most of the 3rd gen pistols did not have dash numbers. There were some with the 45XX series, some performance center pistols, and some I am probably forgetting. This is odd since there were some significant changes during the production of all 3rd gen pistols, but the closest thing you will get to a dash number with 3rd gens is the addition of the letters TSW.

Thanks. It always struck me as odd that the 4516 had definite dash numbers and the other guns didn't seem to, but the changes there involved the mags, and the frame cuts, which are different than things like triggerguards, sights, and MIM, at least I guess to S&W.

I have also found it interesting that a tiny movement of one screw would get a new 'dash number' on a revolver but especially in the 2nd gen pistols, a complete redesign of the frame (trigger guard, move sideplate) would go without a 'dash number'.
There were revisions made to the 3rd gen pistols and ( most of) the frames were marked.

Neat pic. Thanks. If that mark is supposed to be on the flat bottom of the frame as it looks to me from the pic, the 5906 I have handy (2004 gun) is not marked. I'll check some others later.

I have seen it marked on different locations on the frame. Sometimes it is on the side of the frame under the stocks.
Is your 2004 a 5906 or a 5906TSW?

It's not a TSW.
