586 Price check
Looking to get an idea on current value/prices for a Smith 586-2, 4" barrel ....... I'd rate it at 95% with very little turn line..... needs cleaned up under the grips along the backstrap.
Was at the W PA. Gun Collectors Assoc. show this morning. Got the one discribed above for $400 OTD..... sothat's..... $370 for the gun.
I saw 2 other 586s on two different dealers tables...... both with a lot of wear at the muzzle..... overall.......just not as nice; both came with rubber grips. They were priced at $495 and $525.
I think I got a really good deal........ but +$500 for a 586?

My opinion is that a realistic price for your 586 is about halfway between what you spent and what the other guys were trying to get.

The 4" guns do seem to bring a little bit of a price premium in comparison to the 6" and the 586 does the same over the 686 at least here in my part of the country. Prices currently range $495 to $525.

Congrats on a very nice pick up. Wondering if your gun has the original wood grips on it or not.

Congratulations on the purchase and around here that would be considered a real bargain.

586-2s look to date from 1987-1988, which IIRC is after grips were numbered to the gun.
But this one did have the target stocks with the speedloader cutout on it; which did not look like thay had ever been off the gun.

Great deal, I paid $550 OTD for a 581 in 99%. I was thrilled with that. You will absolutely love the gun, let us know what you think after you take it out for a spin

My local dealer has a Clean 4" Nickel 586 with a tag price of $595 on it. I think a pile of 5 - $100 and a $50 would take it home.

Picked up today...
A 586 - no dash, 6 inch barrel, nickeled. I would say it is 95% easy. For $475.00. It had not even hit the shelf yet! It is sad when you walk in and they tell you they have something for you. Lol. Enjoy! I know I will.
