Hi,

Welcome to the Forum!! Great First Post, but we'll need some pretty good photos for an accurate assessment of what you have. Is it Single Action or Double Action? Round or Square Butt?? Sounds by your description it could one of the Single Action Russian's,but the dates you gave on the Barrel Rib don't jive!! Are you sure you worded it "Exactly" how it is stamped on the Barrel Rib?? We need to know "Exactly" how the Address reads beginning with the Company Name!! Post some photos,if possible, and we'll go from there. Your Revolver definitely needs a Factory Research Letter to verify any connection to Cody, but it may just show up as being shipped to an Early Distributor and it will be hard to make the Cody Connection without any additional history. Do you know it's background at all?? That would surely help!! Let us know & Nice Find!!

Yes,it probably would be a good idea to move it to the Antiques Forum, but maybe one of the Moderators will come along & be nice enough to do that for you!!

Welcome to the Forum, The S&W serial number, 34339, falls with in the range of the 2nd model (Old Model Russian) as opposed to the 1st model you state. Full pictures, of the gun and ALL markings, are needed to correctly identify your gun. You are reading the HS mark upside down, it's SH for the distributor, Schuyler & Hartley, and it's not a proof mark, but does indicate the gun ws sold commercially rather than being a Russian contract shipped gun. Also, as said above, the barrel stampings you list do not match stampings on genuine S&W revolvers. No S&W carries a "Manf Date 1871" stamping. There are known foreign copies of this type revolver that carry various spurious stampings of similar nature. The stamping of the "W.F.Cody Wild West Show" would not be a factory mark, but was added later. 9 out of 10 times when you see a similar mark on a gun, it has been added by some prior owner to enhance the gun's appeal, so w/o proven provnance of being the property of Cody's show, it usually detracts from the gun's authenticity. Ed.
