Default Springfeild EMP 9mm

I have my eye on a Springfield EMP. Do any of you have any experience with this pistol? Would 3" 1911 holsters be to loose for it?
While I have no problem carrying a Kimber Gold Match or a Browning High Power cocked and locked, I am considering carrying this short barelled auto in the appendix position, Are the proximity issues to horrifying to contemplate?
I like 124 grain +p in my Highpower, and wonder if it would be a suitable sd load for this gun?
Thank you,
Oscar Zulu

I have handled the 9mm EMP and I have shot the .40 caliber EMP. They will be way too loose in standard compact 1911 pistol holsters. Remember that no parts interchange between and EMP and a 1911 compact. The EMP is 9/10th (or something similar to that) the size in ever dimension to a 1911.

It's a very nice pistol and it's rather expensive. If you're going to get one, get a proper holster made just for the EMP.

Just me two cents. I wish I could afford one, the .40 caliber EMP was amazing and felt great in my hands.

For the price of an EMP I can probably get 2 3913 S&W's. Size is almost the same, with the EMP being very slightly smaller.
A good friend of mine has an EMP 9mm and it is nice but not twice as nice for the money.
Just MY thoughts.......

I got to shoot a few rounds through one this week.

I never wanted to hold one for the simple fact.....price.

I agree you can get two to three guns for that price...

however....its accurate. at 15 yds, around 1900hrs and overcast so no the best lighting conditions....I aimed at the "Q" on a Q target and shot a nice three round group and it could have been better if lighting was optimal.

so accuracy is there. recoil was hardly noticeable shooting 124 ball.

trigger pull was not bad for a duty or CC. if I had to guess, around 5lbs or slightly less.

the slide edges/corners were sharp which is a negative for me. I like a quick handling gun without the fear of cuts or abrasions.

from a cosmetic standpoint and paying over $1000 for this gun, the back of the extractor was not finished off...meaning the end of the extractor stuck out the back of the slide approx 1/8th of an inch. a file and some sandpaper would fix, however it would need to be color finished to match the slide. again...for a $1000 gun...it should have been machined to match the back of the slide from the factory. (my opinion)

disassembly was another issue for me. this gun was new and the owner could not get it apart. when I went to field strip it for him....I could not get the recoil spring assembly(guide rod) off. breaking out with the instructions...It requires a tool which was not present. I started a thread on the 1911forum on this and it appears some will come apart with or without the tool. Normal wear maybe a factor on getting it apart without the disassembly tool. I prefer a carry gun that will disassemble without the use of a tool...which over time and shooting the gun may fix that.

while I liked the gun, its size and intended purpose of carry....I will pass based on price. if the money part has no "baer"ing on your decision....go for it. should I win the lotto this weekend....I will order a EMP NINA, send it to the SAI Custom Shop for dehorning and cosmetic issues. and hopefully the guide rod will come out with a tool.

I owned (note past tense) an EMP in 9mm for a short while. It is indeed a beautiful gun, and being small (smaller frame dimensions than a standard 3" 1911 pistol) it is great for CCW. I traded mine, though, because it has a number of proprietary parts (including magazines) that you can only get from SA. One of the great benefits to me of a 1911 is that you have a number of aftermarket parts options, including magazines. I like a different style of magazine than those that came with the EMP.

SA is a great company, and will take care of any issues you might have with the EMP (some have had some problems, but SA ironed them out.) It was just my personal preference to get something more "standard."

Precision Delta hollow point bullets, that come to a point like a pencil, would not feed. They jammed into the bottom of the feed ramp and stayed put. SA guys said it was the angle of the feed ramp and I could have it redone. I wasn't about to take a bunch of metal away from brand new gun. It fed ball rounds with no problem. I sold it and don't want another one. However, it did feel really good in the hand, was accurate, and recoil was very manageable.

I have had a 9mm EMP for about two months now, and I LOVE this little gun. It has bounced my Glock G17 and has become probably the most-carried of my rotation.

The gun will fit in any open-bottom type 1911 holster, such as a belt slide, which is what I use 99% of the time for all my carry. My preference, is a solid, but inexpensive Don Hume H710. I'm very rough on my carry guns because of my job, and I don't pay a couple of hundred bucks for leather to beat it to pieces.

In a belt slide, at about 3:30, the gun totally disappears. I balance it with my phone and the Springfield double mag holder on the other side. Actually, Springfield includes the double mag pouch and a decent holster with all the EMP's, right in the top of the box.

By the way, the EMP is almost exactly the same size as my S&W 342 Ti. The 342 used to be my carry when I had to go small, now I just stick with the EMP, more rounds, more accurate, easier to shoot.

The EMP comes with an ambi safety, night sights, a decent trigger, and three mags from SA. I'm VERY happy with mine.
