I even went to the length of reading the 'Announcements and Rules" section and didn't see anything about it. Someone who knows please give us the pertinent poop.

I haven’t been briefed on the new feature, but it’s a toggle (like/unlike) that allows you to favorably acknowledge a thread without posting. The member names of those who “like” a particular post are visible to both members and guests. There’s a drop down summary at the top of those pages with posts that are “liked” and there’s a grand total of “likes received” and “likes given” in your member profile under “Mini Statistics”. The "like" totals can apparently be used to sort threads and posts by order of popularity, but I don’t know if there are any plans to do that here.

Thank you for the reply. There already is the thread rating system in place. Oh well
I see under statistics there is also a running total of "likes" received" But that means we need to get a some more smileys with a "Heart"

Say it isn't so. It's "like" junior high school. He likes me, he doesn't like me. Come on, we're grown adults who carry guns. Not teenagers who like...what do they like?

Agreed, this seems very popularity contest-ish. Although, maybe it's also doubling as a troll finder aka troller. NICE!

I don't have facebook but I don't want to be left out so I clicked on it a couple of times. I feel kind of cheery all over now. If S&Wchad likes it, I probably do also.

Is that what it is, a Facebook Thing?? How about alternatives such as:
Don't Like
Don't Care ??

How come the totaled "likes" at the top of the page is one greater than the separately tallied likes in the drop-down list.
I don't like that.

Good question. Maybe it's assumes that the OP likes what he posted and adds him to the total! Maybe it’s just wrong.
As I said, the feature is new to me and I haven't heard anything official about it. I only know what I've read online and what I've observed by trying it. It may cut down on “empty” messages like, “+1!!!!!!!!!” or “LOL!!!!!!!!” or "^^^^ What he said!” that don’t really add to a discussion.

Another thing I noticed is that it adds to your notifications, so to me it appears that I have a new PM, but then when you click on it it is for the "likes".
Pretty annoying.
Sure hope you have a "board" meeting soon.

I think it's pretty foolish, let's not add to the "Facebook-ification" of America........
You go online to talk about a gun made in 1902 and then you have people "liking" the thread. It's bad enough the Twitter lingo has spread over to the internet forums, a couple guys are like "Found a .380 BodyGuard today W00T!!" it's pretty annoying.

I think it's a good feature, an easy way to say you agree with a post. Not crazy about the heart though. A bullseye would be cool.

I have liked reading a lot of threads that I disagreed with wholeheartedly. Also I've learned to at least be suspicious of people who are always likeable or better, avoid them like the plague.

These kids now have their own language too, for FaceBook and all this nonstop texting nonsense. People have started to use this on internet forums, and I'm like "you're not sending a text!"
Not everyone knows what things like " IDK hav u chekd w/ur gun dealer=), >>>>>he might have sum kewl stuff to go w/it" means.
I get all this nonsense from my coworkers who send me texts all day with the "ROFL can u believe wat she said OMG LOL"

Yesterday I had 4 likes, today only three. Do they expire?
Does the Forum provide the counseling, or does the new health care law?

All I know is it is cluttering up my notifications with alerts that someone clicked "liked" .
I am OCD and now have to constantly clear my notifications as I like to keep things tidy

The TARGET is a huge improvement. Thanks for the consideration as the little hearts were making me gag. I'd much rather accumulate targets, if I must.

Personally I'm indifferent to the "like" thing. I'm gonna say what I got to say "like" it or not! And if you don't "like" it, that's what PMs are for. Dale

Now that I have a "like" I realize I could not stoop low enough to accept the throne of a little country like England. I now require a kingdom large enough to be suitable for a slightly likeable S&Wforum member.

"Like" ???
What is this "Like" feature? Why is my formerly scantily used PM capacity being taxed with "likes" ? What is this about? Why should I care? ???

Pilin' on!
I think it is a little "feature" that tells the poster if their comment or post has struck a chord with a reader. Usually, you have to quote a post and then add a comment like, "I agree", or, "ditto" [not sure younger people know what ditto means]. So, using your thread as an example, many of us like your post.

I rather like the like feature. It allows us to respond favorably to posts we enjoy without having to think up something to say and risk stealing your thunder.

It is a feature on Facebook that probably made its way here. It is kinda like an 'amem', 'atta boy', or 'heck yea'....(notice I used discretion Mods

Amen! Now we know what 'like' really means. I was sort of on the right track but still wide of the mark (like my day at the range). I'm not a Facebooker so I appreciate the correct explanation. Thanks!
