Default Charter Arms made in w. Germany

My friend has a Charter Arms Model 79K cal. 380 that was made in W Germany. It looks like it is stainless steel. It has a 6 round mag. with one in the chamber. I did not know CA had any handguns made in Germany. Can someone tell me more about this? The ser. # is C000XXX. Thanks

If it is what I'm thinking of it looks like a cross between a 1911 and a Walther PP. I believe that they were made by Erma and marketed by Charter.

Charter Arms imported them for a couple of years in the mid 80's. Charter was going backrupt at the time so not many were marked with their name on them.
It's the same pistol manufactured & sold by Erma as the Model 457 (459?)

Walther PP features on a 1911 styled frame and slide.
They broke firing pins easily IIRC & the safetys caused problems too.

Mostly (investment) cast parts of a quality and fitting that didn't lend themselves to great longevity. A common theme around that time.
