Osama is dead, now what?
I'm thinking even though he may have been their leader and he has been killed that the terrorists probably will try to show that they are still a force of evil to be reckoned with. I can't see them just throwing in the towel. I really don't know much of anything about his organization but I wonder if he was the sole mastermind behind his groups actions. I kinda fear retaliation from the remaining members.
Hopefully they will just fade out, but I have my doubts. I think that they may try to show the world that they can still cause major damage and that the death of Osama wasn't a major set back for them. I hope the military continues hunting them down and dealing with them, and doesn't become too complacent because of this accomplishment in the killing of a leader of terrorism.
Just a thought.
Peace,
gordon

In the early reporting on the breaking news a reporter that was on the phone with Geraldo Rivera opined that this may lead to peaceful negotiations with the radical islamists.
I literally laughed out loud to that one. Lets see, we kill their leader, and they want to make nice. Uh Huh. It is true that a lot of islamists and other Middle Easterners despised OBL, but enough held him in high regard that I think we will see their wrath, and I think it will be soon. We need to be ready, because this could be the catalyst that leads to another attack. I hope I'm wrong, but I've got a bad feeling.

I'm watching the news, and they already said who is most likely to replace Bin Laden. He was the mastermind, but had become largely a figurehead.
We need to ID and kill whoever replaces him, ASAP...and keep on doing it.
A chill in relations with Pakistan also may be in order.

Osama was a multimillionaire, and he was a major financial backer of his organization. With his death, the money is cut off. I am sure there are others who are more than willing to contribute money, but how much and for how long is a question.
This terrorist group is a snake with many heads, and we have to cut off every head.

End relations with Pakistan...they have the smoking gun to prove they are in the enemy's camp lock, stock and barrel.
That being said, Al-Queda is like the mythological Hydra...cut off one head and two more will take its place. Bin Laden was a mastermind yes, but he was like a four-star General in the organization...there were five-star Generals above him and they are still out there...like him probably hiding in plain sight...and wearing suits and ties.
Today was a victory...but tomorrow the battle begins anew.

The good news is that Bin Laden was worth a crapload of $$$$. I am naive but I hope that his cash has been taken out of the equation. With all the documents found at the site.
The next person would find it much harder to organize worldwide attacks w/o funds.
Hey, you can dream right?

The goal of Islam as strictly practiced is a world wide Califate with the slaughter of Jews Christians and all other Infidels. This is their third attempt in the last 1500 years. The last time they almost got to Paris. Now they believe it can be done with more terrorism and less conventional armies. On population figures alone it has been predicted that Europe will be an Islamic State in about 20 years.
The Genie is out of the bottle and I believe the killing of Osama makes little difference except stir them up a bit.
This is going to go one until the West or Islam is destroyed.

It is a victory. It needed to happen for us to move forward. But...
The fight is not over.
We are not at war with a man. We are not even at war with an organization. We are at war with an idea. The idea of Wahabi influenced Islam. It will take a long time. I am 34. I do not expect to see the end in my life time. Maybe my son will.
In order to win, we will need to convince an entire generation on young Arab men that we do not mean them harm, and that it is better for them to do business with the Americans than to try to kill us. How do we do that? Well, the devil is in the details...,

Great psychological value in demonstrating no matter who or where you are, you can be cashed out, without notice. Bringing the "pain" is the only language some folks understand. But everybody needs to be ready for what comes next. Joe

Well said rimfired, and I'd like to add if I may; be ready, learn first aid, learn to watch and observe your surroundings, don't live in paranoia or fear. And learn your weapon(s), keep your phones handy. The price of freedom is eternal vigilance! And remember, we're all in this together! Dale

What a day...shot in the eye, twice, wrapped in a sheet, dumped into the sea, and then he has to get ready to meet his 72 new wives who all have no idea what to do on the wedding night.

Hey, now. Let's watch our language! He was a terrorist, and his followers are terrorists. Not "radicals" or a "militants" or whatever. Let's be clear: He was a terrorist.
This is not the NYT here!

Hey, YOURself! I don't read the NYTs and I don't care for nitpicking someone else's post. In my mind those people are radical religious fanatics. What they do to others IS a form of terrorism. ............ Big Cholla

this is a very hot topic all over, especialy in an electronics forum where I have a Baghdad resident to talk to.
Seeing some of his sore spots, I think we owe it to all of them a proper close to the operations as I think the civilians have had quite enough for a lifetime
