Couple of threads running about shotgun/handgun pairs. Here are a couple that served, separately, in middle and South Georgia from the early 70s through the 80s. Probably the early 60s in the case of the shotgun.
The shotgun (I refuse to use the term now in vogue on some other forums) is a High-Standard Riot 18-7 Model-K120 as marked on the barrel. It rode, as I understand it, in the trunk of a Sumter County Deputy Sheriff's patrol car during its career. I bought it about eight years ago when Sumter Co. traded about 10 shotguns to the local NAPA for some new ones. I picked this one because of price and condition. There were a couple of High Standard, three or four 870s, and two or three S&W shotguns. I wish now I had bought the other HS at the $130-ish price. There was a story that the shotguns rode in the trunks of patrol cars that were under water during the Flood of 1994, when TS Alberto dumped 18-21 inches of rain on mid/S Georgia in 48 hours. I haven't found any indications that it was submerged, just bumped around and infrequently cleaned.
The revolver is a Model 19-3 that was used by a civilian security guard at Warner Robins AF Base during the 70s and 80s. I don't think the abuse the revolver indicates was done by the officer. He has been indisposed for some years, and died earlier this year. The gun and stocks literally stank when the gun was brought in. His no-account meth-head son sold the gun to the NAPA, and I bought it the next day. Also like the High Standard, the 19-3 is in excellent working order. I doubt if it was shot more than 200 rounds during its lifetime, excepting for yearly qualifying.
These are a couple of solid, ex LE guns, with a local history. I consider myself lucky to have found two working guns I can enjoy without fear of dinging them up.
I have less than $450 OTD in the pair.
