Default Early Model 35 Question

On my early 35 (1959) the barrel flat doesn't have a serial number at all. It is just smooth there. My particular gun is almost new and pristine looking with matching numbers in all the other places. It has matching number grips and is model marked 35 with no dash. There are no markings under the grips and I was wondering if any of you 35 owners have similar guns. Should there be a serial number on the barrel flat or do any of you have one that doesn't?

Thanks, Roger

Yours dates to about the time they started dropping the serial numbers in multiple places. It was whatever parts were available at the time. Yours is probably just fine.

They were moving away from stamping serial #'s on the major parts by 1959. I have a 1958 pre 29 with numbers everywhere except the bbl.

You've got a nice S&W there. They rarely come up for sale.
