M&P 9C Newbie here
Will be taking possession of a new 9c June 7 as my birthday present. Currently have 3 Glocks, G19, G23, and G26. I rented a 9C at the range a few time and fell in love with it. After 3 Glocks I wanted something different and the 9C was it. Are there any "gotchas" I should be aware of in terms of cleaning or shooting vs the Glocks? I have seen that the field strip process does involve reaching into the magwell to depress a lever before moving the take down lever to release the slide from the frame. How about lubrication? My glocks require very very little lube. I have read about the M&P reliability and I hope it is on a par with my Glocks, since with them I cannot remember the last failure of any kind related to the gun. Thanks for any info you guys can provide!

Congrats on your purchase. Am curious to hear how the 9c compares to the g26. I almost purchased the g26 but went with the 9c. I have only had my 9c for about 2 weeks(100 rds) now so I am not an expert yet. I did have a missfire, but I think it was do to a overly lubed firing pin & channel. Anyways keep us updated on how you like your Smith !

Welcome! I considered the Glock 26 when I first purchased my full size M&P but the M&P felt better in my hand. Liked the full size so much now I have a new M&P 9c. Neither has had a malfunction, although the 9c is only a month old. I will be interested to hear your review of the 9c.
You can pull the trigger to release the slide like you do with your Glocks.

Congrats on the 9c, you will love it. M&P 9c was my first auto and has been flawless with over 10k rounds thru it.
As grampa p said, you can remove the slide by pulling the trigger with the disassembly leaver down.
As far a lube goes, very little just like a Glock. Just check the manual.
I find the 9c feels a bit more substantial in my hand than my G26. Both are great pistols. Enjoy!

M&P 9c
Absolutely the best shooting semi I've ever owned, including Colt, Browning, Ruger, CZ, Smith 5906, 439, Sigma, all in 9mm. Also have had two Colt 1911's in 45 and a Glock 36. Have never fed them anything other than my handloads, been loading for 44 yrs. For whatever reason, I can shoot this gun, even with my old eyes. First time out, shot a 6" steel target 4 of 5 times at twenty yards with two-handed hold. T'ain't bad for a geezer! Only 400 rds. so far, no issues, easy to maintain and no gotchyas. Fired case in the box was 6/2010. You'll probably be impressed, and I'm a revolver guy and this is my carry gun. Best wishes.

I am a new owner of an M&P9c as well and its my first gun.
I cleaned out all the grease w/ alcohol and then ballistol the **** out of it when i first got it. The pistol was smoother after that, but what i regret was lubing up the main takedown lever because now it will no longer stay down during the take down process. I would now have to hold it down with a finger to keep it from snapping back up all while pulling the slide back to release for the take down. It was annoying, but I got used to it. Also the slide release is damn hard to activate which forces me to have to rack the slide everytime to release, which i guess is supposed to be the correct way to do it anyways. Still, i wish it acted more like a slide release instead of just a slide lock.

A tip: just pinch the guide rod and barrel together and the slide takedown lever will stay down.

My M&P 9c is a great little gun and my full sized 9 is fantastic. I was a reluctant buyer at first but no more. Owning one and shootiing one changed my mind. Now I own two M&Ps. BY the way I have been shooting more than 60 years myself. Qualified with 50 rounds and one ragged hole where the X ring used to be the day after I bought the FS, I'm sold.

I really like the M&P9c and how it fits into my hand. I also rented it at a range and fell in love with it.
