Default My 1st Model New Departure

I've finally gotten one of the Smiths' that I wanted most.
After I got it, I sent it off to Dave Chicoine for a checkup. Just got it back and everything is good to go. David said it was in great shape and needed no major work of any kind.
So, here is my 1st Model .32 S&W Safety Hammerless New Departure. Serial # 34220.

Hello Monet61,
Nice old lemon squeezer. You might have one of the moderators shift this thread to the antique section as this is definetly an antique and a beauty. You would probably get a lot of ohs and ahs over there.

That is beautiful! I need one just like it. If you are tired of it you can send it to me and I will give it a good home. Kyle

Looks good to me, too! Now that you've finally got it, will
you be doing a range report. Oh, yeah, nice pics!

With a pristine box, great find. I have a blued one in about that condition, and it shoots great. I did break off a firing pin, and a new one was fairly easy to install, but it needed a little "fitting".

Yes I will do a range report. Unfortunately, I have no ammo for it at this time. A friend of mine was going to provide me with a little, but he forgot, and is on vacation for the next little while. ASAP I will be getting the components and die set
to reload my own. I was thinking about a 90 grain bullet and 2.5 grains of Unique. Does that sound appropriate to any of you? Any suggestion would be appreciated.
Thanks

Recheck that powder amount. 2.5 gr. in the .32 "short" is just over the max load. My 30 yr old Lyman Cast bullet handbook shows: (84 gr. cast bullet at .860 OAL.
Bullseye 1.0 to 1.4
Red dot 1.3 to 1.7
Green Dot 1.4 to 1.9
Unique 1.5 to 2.4

As old as these guns are I would keep to the low end. All loads generate between 700 to 750 fps.

I was wondering if someone could give me some guidence regarding a left hand belt carry holster for this little gun?
Is a custom build my only choice?
Any advice appreciated.

Try Ray Cory, Lobogunleather.com he can/will make what you need/want and at a reasonable price with good turn around time.

Someone asked for a range report when I got my ammo. Well, got it today, Magtech 32 S&W, 85 gr bullet, 705 fps. The picture shows the first four, then I adjusted for the final shot. The second five were much better once I figured out the proper grip. Trigger pull is heavy, but consistant. I also learned that , with this gun, grip must be firm. I was shooting from 21 feet. I think some practice will result in confidence with this little gun.

If you squeeze until the tip of your trigger finger just touches the guard, you can hold it there and almost shoot single action.
Nice target!
