Default Sell .45c for 9c??

Hey guys. I bought a new M&P 45c a few weeks ago for $560.00. I now want the M&P 9c for various reasons. I have only put about 200 rounds through the 45c. Should I attempt to sell it to purchase a 9c? The shop I just bought it from said that I would "take a big hit" if I wanted to trade it back in for the 9c. I figure I would get more bang for my buck by selling it. What do you guys think? I would love to have both but money is too tight, I believe I acted to quickly in my initial purchase (which I tend to do here and there). I would appreciate your thoughts and guidance!

I was looking to get $400.00 for it. That would be with everything it came with of course. The case, regular mag, pinky extension mag, grips, and paperwork. I could also throw in 30 rounds of Federal HST .45 ammunition.

Not a bad price. Where are you located, and does it have the thumb safety?

Very nice gun, and thanks for sending the pics. If you were in North Texas I would committ, unless the $400 includes shipping to Texas. If so we need to talk. If not I'm affraid the shipping would kick up the price too high considering an FFL needs to get involved also. Let me know, thanks.

Myanof, the shipping would not be included in the price. I know that is a bummer, and I'm not sure how to even go about shipping it (my local UPS store claims that they won't accept any firearms or ammunition shipments). Maybe I have to go to the actual warehouse? Anyhow, I've never had to ship a firearm so I'm not sure what it would cost. I just don't want to have to pay more than $200.00 for the 9c after selling my brand new .45c if that's understandable. Garrett, do you mean through this website?

My suggestion, being that you are not real familiar with shipping guns through FFLs, is to run adds in the trading/selling sections of forums explaining that you want to either sell your 45C or trade it for another M&P, but your requirement should be FTF (face to face) in Florida. That way you don't have to deal with shipping costs, FFL costs and hastle, and you can deal with cash only. That also gives the buyer an opportunity to make a good deal on their end for a like new gun. Also if you meet someone who wants to buy your gun, but things don't look up and up to you, you have no obligation to continue with the sale. You have a very active gun market in Florida so this should be no problem.

Good luck, and I'm sorry we couldn't work anything out. I am a good buyer, but just the wrong state.

Myanof, thank you for such good advice. I will try to do figure out a way to advertise locally. I apologize about the shipping.

No apologies necessary my friend. Be very careful advertising locally as local adds can bring out some real questionable folks. That's why I prefer to advertise in forums like this one. It's no guarantee, but people that hang around these gun forums have a tendency to be gun guys and not bad guys. I personally will not meet anyone in person that I have not had a conversation with on the phone. This lets me do a little pre-screening before we meet in person. Good Luck

^^^ Very good advice, I was a bit worried about who I would be being contacted by. I also believe in Florida there is no registration or anything, so I wouldn't know if it was a felon or something. Maybe I will just hang on to the .45 and save up for awhile.

A couple of thoughts for you...

Talk to your gun shop...they might be willing to ship the firearm for a reasonable fee (much less than you can) to the buyer's FFL dealer (especially so if you are going to buy the M&P 9c there) so this will give you more options, rather than local only.

If you do want to do a FTF sale, your local gun shop might be willing to handle the transfer for a fee. I know most don't want to do this, but I like to do it this way because it makes the transfer official, and gives a paperwork trail for any future questions about when and how you disposed of the handgun.

Also, talk to your gun shop...if they give you $350 or more in trade, you are going to come out about the same as selling the pistol for $400 and then shipping it yourself. Plus, it is "instant" and you don't have to worry about records, etc.

The best answer is to keep it and save for the 9c, of course!

Renegade87-there is a Suncoast gun show in Tampa next weekend at the Florida State Fairgrounds (June 4-5). That may be another option for you to trade in person instead of advertise We were going to wait until then to get the two we bought today but we just couldn't hold out that long (hubby bought the full size M&P 45 and he bought me the M&P 9c) Now we'll go to the gun show looking for great deals on ammo instead Good luck.

You might see if you can find a shop that will sell it on consignment for you. My local shop waives the fee if you apply the amount towards a bigger purchase. Might be worth a few phone calls to avoid the hassle.
