on my 40 c i can load 10 in the magazine but it will not fit in the gun. the only way i can do it is put 9 in the mag. wrench one in the chamber then pop the mag. out and put another in.what gives here?

Try loading with the slide locked back.
When you load a full magazine with the slide closed, you have to compress another 1/2 cartridge diameter against the bottom of the slide to seat the mag, and that can be tough with a new mag.
