Default Am i expecting too much?

i just installed a set of pachmayr compac grips on my model 36. i absolutely love the feel of these grips, they do exactly what i had hoped they would. the only downside to this grip is the fit and finish.

1) the front part of the grip doesn't meet, leaving a gap down the front of the grip.

2) at the butt of the grip the 2 sides don't line up just right. i tried to set them even, but it seems since they are actually one piece connected at the backstrap, there is no fixing that part. there is also a teardrop shaped gap where the backstrap meets the butt that's pretty big.

3) the screw that mounts them to the gun doesnt bottom like i would think you would want it to. i initially screwed it a little too far trying to fix problem #1 which in turn left threads sticking out the oppisite side, and even then it wasnt bottomed.

Dont get me wrong, i love the feel of these grips, they seem to be perfect for me. and none of these problems are deal-breakers on this particular set of grips. The question i have is... am i being too picky? am i expecting too much from a set of rubber grips? or is this not typical of pachmayr, or other sets of rubber grips. Thanks in advance.

Could you file down the screw so it would not stick out? Place removed screw in a vice and take a few threads worth?

These were not very expensive when new and it isn't uncommon for different batches of them to fit together differently. If VM made them, they would fit a lot better!

For sure, many of Pachmayr's grips use a screw that is a bit too long.

I put Hogue Bantams on my M-65-amazing inovation, and fits both my big paws and my little Wifes hand as well. Fit perfect and look great, and the way they go on is really neat. Flapjack

Set them in the sun for an hour or two until they are nice and warm to the touch. Fit them on until you can close the seem. The screw is almost always set too tight on all the Pachy's I have seen. The steel skeleton inside with flex and bow causing the seem to open the tighter the screw is set. Try this and the screw should set just about flush with the other side. I went through and did this the couple that I still use and it cleaned them up very nice.

Throw the Pack-mires away and put on the factory magnas and a Tyler T-grip like God, Horace Smith, and D. B. Wesson intended.
