Default Officer killed in Memphis.

Details still coming in. It appears that the MPD Officer was ambushed in the stairwell of the Doubletree Hotel in downtown Memphis. Officer is reported to be in extremely critical condition. Prayers for him, his family and fellow officers.

MPD always gets its man, but in this case, I don't like the cost.

Prayer sent for his family and friends.
According to CBS local news there have been 40 L.E.O's killed L.O.D. in 2011, a 38% increase from 2010. What in the hell is wrong with people these days?

So many have nothing to lose, these days. What is a little odd is that the overall murder and violence rates are down. I suspect that many of these LOD killings take place when officers intervene in domestic disturbances.

Not sure where they got that data. In fact, 93 LEO's killed thus far in 2011; 38 by gunfire.

Be safe.

Prayers and much gratitude to the men and women of law enforcement. We all owe them much. To you guys on the forum who wear ( or have worn ) a badge, I salute you all.
After looking at the list of MPD officers lost, it would appear that the most lethal weapon facing a LEO is an automobile, not a firearm. Interesting.

I walked right by the place the officer was shot not 30 minutes earlier going to a Memphis Redbirds baseball game. There were at least 6 officers outside the Doubletree doing crowd control. One of them called in shots fired. This poor guy, who was on his way to report for duty, pulled up in his pick up truck and started to search the building. You know the rest.

Supposedly he was considering quiting the MPD to go into the ministry, an outstanding record of service to the community. Two young children.

The perp, reported to be a distant cousin of the downed officer,(coincidence) supposedly was bragging about shooting a cop in the ER.

God Bless this fine patrolman's family as well as all others involved. The perp will be a nice test run on capital punishment methods 20 or so years from now. For now let him rot on death row.

This fallen LEO was a prolific poster on another forum and had started a thread just before leaving for his shift. Mods of that forum have apparently taken that thread down out of respect.

They have lost their morality, their common sense, their ability to distinguish (or even care) what is right and wrong. They have become much worse than wild animals.

Feral Man is a hazard to himself and all others who must share the planet with him.

I will pray for the family of the murdered officer.

Memphis is a very tough city. I spent a lot of time there in the past several years on business. It was not a matter of the morning news reporting on a murder the night before - it was more about how many occurred. Very, very tough place..
