Default ***update Would you trade a hi-power or s&w 625jm update***

I was debating this all weekend long. I have browning hi power made in 77 it's in great condition I have the leather case and all the paper work. Would you trade it for s&w 625. I hear nothing but great things about the 625 but I can say the same thing about the hi power. What do you think?

Well decided not to trade hi- power or buy a 625. I decided to start a new project. I forgot about the 870 I bought in December its in rough shape so I am ordering some parts so I can get started next week. I think I was bored with I had and needed something new. I'm glad I didn't do anything stupid.

That depends in where your love is with the two. I have a 625-3 three inch and a stainless late model but still made in Belgium HP. The HP would still walk before the HP, but that is me. Others might go insane if they had to give up a good Belgian made HP.

if it is a Belgian made High Power, I'd be hard pressed to let it go.. they just don't show up that often..

quick look at gunbroker shows 13 625's for sale but no highpowers

But, one of the top 5 bottom feeders ever made, and one of the top 10 handguns ever made.

I'd never trade something uncommon (Belgian HP) for something common. Bad trade! Bad, bad trade!! JMHO

I'd have to think long & hard about that trade. Now I'm a revolver guy, but if I'm going to have a self loader, the Hi-Power is one of the classiest out there. Would I trade???????? Don't think so. Now if I could draw $150 boot? Maybe.

Keep the Hi Power. Buy a S&W 625. Enjoy both.

That's what I did.

There are ten to eleven pages of Hi-Powers on GunBroker. Got to watch how you spell it on the search function. Proper name is Hi Power not HiGH Power. Do as I did and own both.

Agree with much of your post however the FN (Browning) Hi-Power was never produced in stainless steel.

I gota kind of go along with the herd on this one. I own a 1950s HiPower. Bought it used in about 1975 after having my previous unit "liberated" by some low life dirtbag. I also must say that 9mms are about my least favorite pistols(even though I own two, the above mentioned Browning and a Smith 915 and carried a 92 F the last couple of years of my LEO adventure). I also like wheelguns(at my age, probably more than sex!) and while I don't own a 45 cal. Smith, it is on my short list of Grail Guns. Like Frank said, even with a boat load of money to boot, I don't think I would/could make a trade and if I did I would have a serious case of sellers remorse. Give up you morning Starbucks or brown bag your lunch instead of Micky D's or buy cheaper beer.. Save your money and in 6 months you will be able to buy a 625. In the end, you will decide what is best and the opionions you get here are just that and they are worth what you paid for them. Good luck with your decision... GB

Hmm. My Hi Powers are keepers - as long as I have a choice anyway..

A 3" M625 or M25 is on my list of serious wants, but both are great pistols. Let us know what you decide. Post pics too.

I would definitely keep the Hi Power and save up for the 625 or trade something else.

Ok, here's my chance to be a contrarian. I'd gladly trade an HP for a 625JM.

I LOVE my 625JM. So much so that I've stopped shooting my 1911 and am considering selling it. As for the HP, well, I tried one of them and just wasn't all that impressed. It's a nice gun but the trigger wasn't all that great and the cost -- over $800 -- struck me as being more for the cachet and the reputation than for what the gun was actually capable of doing. I eventually bought a CZ 75 B SA (the all single action version of the gun) for about $500. It's by no means a glamorous gun, but it does everything that the HP is capable of doing, with a better trigger, a larger magazine capacity, and at about 60% of the price.

A good Belgian hi power for a 625? Not a chance, and I hate it's chambering. An older 27, a .44 target or military, a k22....a classic for a classic. Save for the 625, and keep both...unless you just hate the HP.

I haven't owned a Grand Puissance (That's Hi Power in French, Tish!) for a long time. I wouldn't trade one for a 625 either and I love revolvers and I love 45acp. You can easily find a 625. Good condition Belgium made Hi Powers are getting scarce and are not cheap.

Heck no! I love a good Hi-Power. I have a contemporary one made in Belgium assembled in Portugual. Wish I had a 100% Belgian made one.

Gotta hang onto pre-lock S&Ws and 100% Belgian Hi Powers. They'll still be makin' 625JMs.

Keep the HP, I let a nice one go several years ago. I think they are the best auto ever. It'll cost a fortune to replace it when you decide you want another. You'll find a deal on the 625 eventually, be patient, that's what collecting is all about.

Best, Rick

Going with the crowd on this one. Keep the Hi Power, save up and buy the 625. Never trade a gun without a lock for a gun with one. The words "cold dead fingers" come to mind when I think of giving up my Hi Powers.

I love revolvers, overall much more than autos. However, there are a few autos that have been on my "want" list for years. I finally picked up two of them early last year.

Both are Browning Hi-Powers, one is blue Standard with adjustable sights, the other is a Practical with fixed sights. Would I trade either of them for a 625, or any other revolver for that matter? NO chance!

As almost everyone here has said, you can pick up the 625JSM quite easily. Replacing a Belgian made and assembled Hi-Power is going to be a problem. And it will be more expensive than you realize.

If you still have the same reasoning for owning the Hi-Power that you did when you bought it, by all means keep it. If, however, you don't really want it anymore, REALLY don't that is, then let it go to someone who does want it, and get what you want.

Good luck on your choice, and may you be "happy" when you make it.

Exactly. The correct answer is OWN BOTH.
Unless the alternative is eviction or something, I would sell nothing. I made that mistake once, selling a gun to buy another when I didn't really need to sell to do it, and regret it to this day, and will never do it again.
