Question Light Strikes on primer - Pro 9mm

I am getting light primer strikes with my M&P 9mm Pro 5 inch barrel. As in FTF. (failure to fire) I have the APEX Tactial sear and USB.

I had the RAM, but took it out since the sear failed to reset caused FTF. Removal of the RAM seemed to stop the sear failing to reset.

I have the stock striker spring but a competition trigger return spring. All other springs are stock. The pistol has about 4000 rounds through it.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to cure this? Or something to check?

Tlhanks

Each of the 4 or 5 stock M&P pistols I've shot were 100% reliable, including the 2 that belong to me. I'd get rid of the aftermarket stuff and call it good. The Apex parts are supposed to be high quality, but maybe your combination of parts is causing the FTF situation.

I had a early M&P that had a different striker in it than my newer ones. The sear engagement pad was not built up as much as the newer style and I had light strikes every now and then with the stock components. S&W sent me a new striker and it solved the problem, it was probably holding the striker back just a fraction more, but it was enough to make a difference.

I will call S&W. But I think I have the newer striker.

I will call Apex Tactical about the light strike, also. There was a competition striker spring. I did not install it as I had a 2.5 lb trigger.

This is a competition only handgun. If I can't get that nice trigger, I might as well shoot my Glock 35. Compared to the M&P 9 the Glock trigger it is New York 2 trigger.

I would return the gun back to stock configuration to check things out. If it is reliable as stock, the problem is in after market part in some manner. I run all of my M&P's pure stock and have never had a problem. My .40 Full Size has over 15,000 rounds downrange without a hiccup ever, still box stock.

Make sure that the channel that the striker rides in is perfectly clean. Any caked up powder or metal shavings and slow down the striker make for light strikes. It happened to me.

Happened to me also. I, like a dummy, decided the striker channel needed oil and so I oiled it... quite generously. Yeah, that wasn't one of my brilliant moments. It just caused burnt powder & grime to buildup in the channel & thus the light strikes as stated above. Stick with the oil recommendations ET. If it isn't the rails or the barrel hood I don't oil it anymore. Now my guns & I are happy once again.

Returning the gun to stock just to see if the trigger work is causing the problem would be what I'd do. I wouldn't expect it to cause this type of problem, but stranger things have happened in my lifetime.

I put in the competition striker spring. I now have a 2.2 lb trigger. I took it to the range and fired 40 rounds. No FTF. I am going to a match tomorrow and am using my favorite 9mm. I'll let you know if it happens again.

It happened again. A dead trigger. Not the same as light strike, but result the same. Both has happened with Apex tactical stuff in the gun. Apex Tactical is hard to contact. No one answers the phone and it takes weeks to get an email back.
