P.C. 625-6 sells for $2500. on G.B. WoW
Watching this and bidding in the early running. Very cool gun. I've handled it. A bit nose heavy. And what the heck would you do with it?
Shoot it, collect it.
I wanted it, but boy-howdy, not as much as the final winner.
Smith&Wesson Mod 625-6 Performance Center 45 COLT : Revolvers at GunBroker.com
I have a pair of the light hunters and they are fantastic shooters.
Wow, that was an auction!
Edited; I guess it's relative to what this other 625-7 went for. With only a 3" barrel too.

One more 625-7 3" with box sells for $2300. Any gun is only worth what someone is
willing to pay for it.

Good luck
Allen

Allen,
That .45 Colt Hunter was sold by our own Handejector. You'll recall that last week he posted he was selling stuff because he'd gotten himself into a financial bind by spending all of his time saving this forum while neglecting his usual business. It could be a member helped him out in a round about way. you're right it's heavy, but no heavier than PPC unlimited .38 wadcutter revolvers. I don't know much about the 3 incher, 4" is as short as I go with N frames, but I agree there is less to justify the height of its price.

K fan, yes I know it is Handejector selling the gun. And I am glad for him
that it sold for what it did.
My thread here is merely looking at trends in prices of a few 45 Colt revolvers that I happen to collect.
The internet is now playing a huge role in many of our lives and
it is often used by sellers to ascertain the value of their gun they have
for sale.
Regards
Allen

Very recently one of those 625-7 (3" .45 Colt) was bid up to $3950. A week or two later another was snatched up at a "Buy Now" price of $2500. I monitored the Feedback of the first auction's parties afterward, and noted that the transaction was consummated satisfactorily to the seller. (I did not think this was more than three months ago, but I am unable now to find either auction on GunBroker's site. It must have occurred just outside of their 90 day Search window.)

Allen ... Correct me if I'm wrong, but did all three pistols sell to the same bidder with 46 feedbacks? Obviously a 45 Colt aficionado.

That is one of my favorite 45 Colt revolvers. I changed the grips on mine. I shoot it all the time.
When the Lite Hunter came out in 1997 my dealer had one on the shelf. I bought it a soon as I saw it. Noticing that the serial number was CLT0003 I had him call Lew Horton and see if serial number CLT0045 was available. So I bought that one as well. I thought it was pretty cool having a 45 Colt revolver with the serial number CLT0045. I eventually traded #3 off to a buddy of mine for a class "A" model 27. He really wanted the Lite Hunter.
RSR did a similar run of revolvers in 1999 but with a fluted cylinder.

Allen,
Trying to figure out the trend line on some of these is really bazaar. There was one 625-7, 3inch (no box) on GB last week, now relisted. There was No Bid and it opened at $1400.00. I can't figure it out. And you know I "need" one.
See ya,
Kurt

I think I know what is behind these Gun Broker trends. People store their crack pipes too close to their computers!

Lite Hunter
I too like the "Light Hunter" looks, I have seen them in 625, 657, and 629. I have one in 686 (pictured). Has anyone ever seen a 627 Light Hunter? I NEED one.

As far as I know the 627 was only manufactured in the Hunter configuration . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . So Far

I watched a guy behind the counter pull out an Outdoorsman and go to put a price tag on it. He asked his boss what he wanted it at. With a big stack of Blue Book of Gun Values setting right nest to him he walked over and I saw the familiar green and white of Gunbroker.com pop up on the screen. I don't think most of these guys even check the completed auctions. They just see what someone else is trying to get so they label it with that price. I think we are seeing a false jump in prices this way. Much like the housing bubble, I think some of these prices will come back to reality once the guns just stop selling. But the crazy thing is they are selling at these inflated prices. So I never know just how comfortable a price is anymore. I have been guilty of asking for a price here and I know I have been guilty of paying more than I should, so I know I'm not helping the price inflation any. But the sad fact is that many times if you see it then you had better jump on it because there are guys behind you that will if you stumble. So I just never know anymore.

627 Heavy Hunters
Here are two model variations of the 627 Heavy Hunter, the top is the 627-PC and the bottom is the 627-3. Photographed showing the left side so you can see the frame difference.

Apologies for drifting from Allen-Frame's original post on pricing and thanks to Maximumbob54 for bring it back. I do wish the auction sites were auction sites where high bid determined the value. But the fact is sellers want top dollar and why not. A 27-7 just sold on GB real auction about the same time yesterday as the 625 in question and it exceeded $1200.00, which was my ceiling (so while I watched and wanted to own it, there was no bid from me), but its worth every penny IMHO. Congratulations to carmoney4.

It just takes a couple of wealthy guys both deciding that they are going to have it regardless of the cost and the price can skyrocket far beyond the true value of the item.
That's the trouble with online auctions.
I wonder if the winner has any buyers remorse seeing what else he could have had with that much $$$$.

625 auction
True value: What the highest bidder is willing to pay.
Whenever a person gets a high price for a gun, many others begin to complain...If it were THAT person's gun that sold for a nice, high price,it would all be ok....
Congrats to the buyer,and Lee.
Nice items bring good money.

Thanks Allen-frame
Thanks Allen for all of your posts and information, it is very helpful to a new forum member and collector like myself...not to mention what you collect is exactly what I'm interested in (N-frames and 45 colts). After seeing this post about the 625-6, I knew I had to someday own a 625 hunter version, but not at $2500. Used the gunbroker notification system, watched a mint 625-6 hunter sell two weeks ago for a buy now price of $2200 within 24hrs. Lucky for me a few days ago another notification came in and there it was, another one but with a buy now of $1250, so I quickly snagged it and can't wait for its arrival. So surprised that for a gun which only 50 remain in US, there have been three on gunbroker recently. Thanks to all members for your insight and knowledge is incredible.

Man oh man, don't I know it! I overpaid on my last auction so much I won't speak of it. But, I had to have that 500 Magnum!
