Default 29 mountain gun & magnum ammo

I have posted info about this gun before, problems with the internal lock etc. which in the end turned out to be a bent center pin.

I carry it as a woods gun with BB low recoil ammo but have not fired it in some time because of the ammo shortage issues. Thinking I can now replace my last box of 44 specials I went to the range last week.

Great carry gun as used on an IDPA target at 7 yards. After 1/2 a box of factory SJHP .44 mags for practice the cylinder again feels a little harder to open.

Back at home I see that the screw holding the cylinder release latch is loose, maybe 3 turns to re-tighten.

[expletive deleted]

So can the screw loosening create the condition where the center pin is unsupported and then can bend?

Is a light mountain gun similar to the alloy frame guns and because of it's lightness subject to problems will full magnum ammo?

I plan to shoot magnum ammo again this week and see if the sticky cylinder gets worse. Does anyone else shoot a mountain gun with magnum ammo and have or not have this problem?

I am annoyed enough to think about a Redhawk.

Thanks,
Bill

No and neither are the Scandium guns

I ONLY shoot magnum ammunition in my magnum firearms. Check for a flake of powder under the extractor. Check to see that the ejector rod is firmly screwed in place. These are the most common causes.

The cylinder release being loose can be the problem. Take the cylinder release off and look at it. It runs in a slot and if it's rotated and not "centered" it will bind in the slot. Can definitely be a problem. The cylinder release nut is one of the things I Loctite.
