National Gun Day Louisville 9/10 and 11
I haven't been to the Louisville show in many years. In an earlier thread it sounded like many of our distinguished members might be going to the Sept. show, so......I thought this would be a good one to catch. Guys it's next month now.
So who's in? Got your reservations yet? Is there an official Smith-Wesson Forum cocktail party or what?
Really hope I get to meet some of you guys.

rburg will be the old grey haired white guy wearing a flannel shirt. Can't miss him. His table is the unofficial S&W gathering place but the promoter has been trying to run burg off for years by giving him the worst table locations in the show. Doesn't work. Like the proverbial bad penny, he just keeps coming back for more.
Sept is usually a good show and I've heard that Charlie Sherrill may make the trip. Kieth 44 special is usually there and when he is, you know it. That man lights up the room. GF is a known scoundrel so keep your guard up when he's around. I've met VM and bama biker and the big monkey hisself used to set up on occasion. He always brought some class to the affair. The Fugate brothers are usually there and they've always got something interesting going on. Burg's partner, Diamond Joe, is a pro's pro and a true Renaissance Man.
Last year the promoter learned a lesson about scheduling. He did NGD the same w-end as Mt Sterling's Court Days. The local dealers went to CDays and NGD was lame without them. Wised up scheduling this year and I'll bet he won't take on Court Days again head to head.

Thanks doublesharp
That's all great news. Is the Crowne Plaza the best place to stay? I would love to stay in walking distance, but from what I remember any place would be a looong walk. Hope to see you there.

Burg will know best where to stay. I'm still on work release and have to report back to the halfway house by 6.

Me to. June was fair Saturday and 1/2 empty Sunday. I don't see the economy as being much improved but I think people are more apt to be interested in guns with fall hunting season just around the corner. Hard to say.

Admission prices and parking are what's killing off this show! $20 to get in the door. Kinda negates any savings you might hope to get on reloading supplies, etc. that you can get at LGS for about the same price or a little less and support the local economy at the same time. Add on a couple snacks, etc. and you've spent in excess of $30!
Now, having said that, it's hard to find as much sheer entertainment for $30 anywhere else with the outside hope you might, just might, find a bargain. Been a while since I've found a true "bargain" like in days gone by.
I'll be there with bells on, but with diminished buying power and dampened enthusiasm!

Sorry, guys, I was on my summer vacation. Jeeping in the mountains of Colorado. Just got in this evening after 2 days of hard driving (in a luxury Jeep utility.)
OK, the gun show... Yes, its in September as stated. Charlie says he's coming up, along with Junior I assume.
Some things are different this year. Joe and I aren't springing for a table. We just don't care. We'll be in with Brenda if we need a place to sit (or hold court). We've been burned so many times by the promoter we'll just play the game his way. We'll give the fairgrounds their $8 to park, and give Dickson his $12 admission on Saturday. He's not getting our $105 for a table. So keep your hands in your pockets, we'll be on the prowl for extra badges (to maybe save the $12). We think we can probably beg one or two for the time needed to smuggle in our friends!
On the issue of where to stay, the Executive Inn right across from the entrance is best. The restaurant isn't the best, and they are woefully understaffed on Friday. Meaning you'll get your food around bed time.
The hot ticket is to not drive into the fairgrounds, but instead leave your car in the motel lot and walk over. You'll still be parked closer than if you parked in the vendor area (behind the horse barns.) Another even more evil trick is to get out of bed, run downstairs, then drive across the way. Park in the prime position, then walk back over and take your shower. But then you won't have a place in the motel lot, which overflows because non-guests have all the spaces over there.

This show is in S Wing A, which is almost to Freedom Hall so it's a pretty good hike from the Exec Inn. For an A show the D lot by the horse barns is best if you got a badge but if you've got to go in the front door, be sure and wear some comfortable shoes.
We didn't know how good we had it back when the South Wing stopped at B and C was just a parking lot. Back when burg was buying Reg Magnums for $700-800.

More hotel questions.
rburg.
Hope you had a great vacation.
"On the issue of where to stay, the Executive Inn right across from the entrance is best. The restaurant isn't the best, and they are woefully understaffed on Friday. Meaning you'll get your food around bed time."
Are you referring to the Crowne Plaza that used to be the Executive West? The Executive East doesn't seem to still be around? I may be missing something. I frequently do.
Thanks for your help. I'm really looking forward to meeting some of our forum community. Maybe we could meet up for a Bourbon Saturday night?

The Executive East got remodeled, then bulldozed. Its just some concrete now. Yes, the old Executive West changes names (but not the quality of service in the restaurant.)
We've had a change of plans. My pard Joe lost his nerve. Now he says he wants a table. Can't get it in his name because of earlier confrontations with the promoter. Not to worry, he's got another alias he'll use. The promoter is so desperate he'll take anything. And then assign us to the netherlands. Who cares, it just means I'll be walking the show instead of sitting.
Maybe we'll use Doublesharps tables as a center of activity. My original plan was to only go on Saturday. I've stopped getting a room for the weekend, it relates to being retired and the room prices going through the roof. Driving down and back for 3 round trips of 200 miles each isn't worth it. I'll guess I can see all I need to in a single day.

They've got a $105 rate for show attendees. You can't take it with you after all. I'll buy the first round !!
Anyway, hope to see you there.
