Default Does your wife make the bed every morning?

Mine does and that is great. Before marriage my bed was only made on demand, all depended on if the date was possibly ending up at my home or hers. Anyway, I like her making it but what's the point? Why not just toss the blankets over the pillows tuck em in and call it good? It wouldn't be such a deal except my wife has TONS of stuff she puts on the bed when she makes it. An extra quilt, 6 or 8 "cute" pillows, stuffed animals and a few other items. It would not be so bad but I am always the first to crash and have to "carefully" remove this stuff and stack it in the corner of the bedroom. Heck, I know how to make a bed, good ol Uncle Sam taught me how to toss a quarter and bounce it off the bed.

During the summer, there isn't even a top sheet on the bed, so nothing to "make". But no wife, either.

Wink I can't remember

I can't remember if she does or not. I'll ask her the next time I see her. It ought to be a great diversion.....I hope

Personally, I am one of those guys that love for everything to be tidy so I make up my bed each and every time the sheets need changing.

Every single morning! Saturday, Sunday, Holidays. And, it's her idea to do that. I'd let it slide if it was up to me, at least on weekends and holidays.

My wife thinks 'make the bed' means create a bed for the furniture store to sell.

I always help, or almost always, her make the bed. She works the overnight shift like from 7:00PM to 7:30AM, so we usually make it twice a day. I tend to wreck it pretty bad She sleeps so soundly that she doesn't hardly move. In this heat (107 today) all we really need is a sheet to cover up with but she still likes to put on the whole works. Maybe she's afraid it's gonna get really cold sometime during the night
Peace,
Gordon

Mine does every day, but, what is the thing with pillows now?? Two of us sleep in the bed, there are EIGHT pillows! The two standard type for sleeping and 6 "decorative" ones which have to be placed on the floor at night then she puts back in place on the bed every morning. Waste of time in my opinion.
We rented a place on the Gulf Coast with the kids a couple of weels ago on the bed in the master bed room there were TEN pillows! What's going on??

I wish mine could. She suffers from microvascular CNS disease and is partly disabled. I try and smooth it out and turn it down each day. Our housekeeper, who comes once a week, changes the bed and makes it. Be glad and happy if your wife can still do these things.

I have never understood the business of "making" a bed. It's always struck me as an absolutely pointless obsessive/compulsive "neat freak" waste of time. After all, there's nothing hygienic about it, the bedroom is a private, personal household space, not on display to visitors or guests (except, perhaps, in some Hollywood households ...) so nobody but the very people who are going to "unmake" it will ever know the difference. When I stay in hotels, I work my way around the foot of the bed, untucking the tautly tucked sheets and blankets, and set aside the unnecessary decorative pillows and bedspreads, etc. Repeating this routine daily would be irksome. I'm all in favor of having things in order, but this is a convention not worth its bother, to my way of thinking...

Nope

She gets up early for work

I am between employment and have been a night-owl forever

If she made it, I'd be trapped (and sometimes the dog too)

the wives who do stuff around the house give those of us who live life a bad name.

I do laundry

I cook

I do the bathroom

And that's about all I do around the house.

I (can) change oil and rotate tires, bleed brakes, etc, and actually DO IT sometimes. Vacuuming, yard, litterbox...nope. Not me.

Let me have my messy bed. I'm doing good enough to get up and not be late wherever I have to be on whatever day it is. No time to make the bed. Things like waking up at 940 for a 945 appoint kind of keep it from happening.

My wife gets up at 4 a.m. I get up at 6:30 a.m. So... I make the bed. Would not consider letting it sit around all messed up all day long. No different than putting the dishes in the sink, etc. Yesterday afternoon I got home at about 5:45 p.m. She got home about the same time. In a little while she had made mashed potatoes w/ garlic, meatloaf, green beans, iced tea for supper. Excellent. We were out the door for church by 6:45 p.m. When we got home, she ran the dishwasher while I was doing some studying. The house is ours together. Take care of it together. If some think this is a threat to their "maleness" then that is their problem. As of today my wife and i have been married 32 years. We've always helped each other get things done around the house, etc. It's just the right way to do things. You share the load. Anything else is just selfish.

If I had a wife, I'd like to think she would make the bed in the mornings, but I also think the task is a waste of time.

My morning routine is a well orchestrated chain of events, that I have timed down to the minute. I would hate to explain to my boss the fact that I was 5 minutes late was because I had to make my bed. I think he'd fire me on the principle.

The only time I make my bed myself is after washing the sheets every week, or if I was expecting some company.

Yes.

I help some around the house but not that much. But in our case I work outside the house and my wife is a housewife, so it seems fair to us that my wife takes care of most of the household chores.

I suspect that many wives consider it a big help if we stay out of the way and don't mess up too much.

For example. What I call "fixing myself something to eat", she called "making a mess in the kitchen".

What I called folding the towels and wash cloths she called "wadding them up"

What I called "mopping the floor" she called "smearing the dirt around with a mop"

I have become very proficient at taking out the trash. Unfortunately I don't always get the new trash bag installed to her satisfaction.

What I called "mopping the floor" she called "smearing the dirt around with a mop"

I have become very proficient at taking out the trash. Unfortunately I don't always get the new trash bag installed to her satisfaction.

Ahh.....EXACT same thing here my friend! I mean, Exact. Want to tick off the wife quick....mop the floors, fold the towels, or, most of all, try doing some of HER laundry! No matter how hard I try to get it just right the worse it turns out. Oh yea, about the trash bag, I ALWAYS put in a new bag before I take out the full one all the while trying to keep my dogs nose out of the full one.

( I sure hope my wife never sees this thread, I might as well be dead.)

From the perspective of a wife and mom:
If you referring to don't make it messy in the first place or cleaning up after yourself...those are always good practices for anyone.

But in general...NO!!! Most do not consider it a big help for you to stay out of the way when we do housework. Some do, but they are a tiny minority and most will gladly welcome ANY help especially if there are children in the house or if you helped make the mess in the first place. Doubly so if those kids are teens that we have to nag to rinse off a plate let alone get any real work out of them.

Once, just ONCE I wish someone else might think to scrub the toilet or load the dishwasher without me having to say it over and over and then not be heard until I use my Exorcist voice.

4 bathrooms. 3 kids. 1 man (so think 4 more kids) 2 cats. that's a lot of cooking, dirty dishes, dirty clothes, dirty floors, dirty catboxes dirty toilets...I cannot keep up with it all. So...back to the original thing about making beds...no, I have to work so hard to keep up with the sanitary and cleanliness and well fedness of the house..NO MAKING BEDS. I do slack off on the Mr. He works a lot of long hours.

Just once, I say to men and children: Without us having to ask, put clothes away after we fold them. Start the dishwasher after dinner. And for the love of all that is sacred and holy, scrub a toilet. PLEASE scrub a toilet.

I guarantee that at some point at least 95% of all wives/mothers have felt like, at least once, that nobody cares about us until they notice what we do isn't getting done for them.

We would love any help you give. In return, I know how to take care of my car, mow a lawn, and unclog a drain and do not always ask the Mr. to do it. In return, I would like the Mr. and kids to know what a toilet scrubber is, how to use it, and actually do so now and then.

As an aside, I had a man friend explain to me the male conspiracy of "planned incompetence" when it came to helping around the house. So be warned that some of us are on to your game (planned incompetence: n., the act of deliberately botching any household chore or honey-do list item so badly that you will never be asked to do it again)

I make up mine. She makes up hers. We get up at different times so it works better that way.

I'm not allowed to do laundry unless closely supervised.

Neither of us do bathrooms, toilets, vacuuming, or mopping. We started having weekly maid service when we were both working, and we haven't stopped it after we both retired.

She is the "master gardener" - I am labor. She irons. If something breaks, I fix it. She handles social activities, including birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, and correspondence. I do the taxes.

We both cook, although I tend to specialize in salads and outdoor cooking. She is the "master cook" - I am the sous chef.

In other words, two people that have been married 47 years have split up the chores so that both of us are comfortable with the division, most of the time.

Works for us,

Buck

In our house whoever is the last one out of the bed, is the one that makes it. Ever since I retired I am the last one out as she has to be at work early. After 40 years of marital bliss we share a lot of things.

I can't disagree with a word you said. However, I do sometimes disagree with the wife on what is necessary. Ultimately, if she thinks it needs to be done, it needs to be done. I'm trying.

I do most of the time. If the wife is up and in the shower when I'm ready to leave for work, I do it. If not, she does it. I actually do a better job.

This is slightly OT, but good. Around 1964 I was doing a job in northern california in bigfoot country. A couple of my guys lived in a large old boarding house. A old southern couple ran it. It had a large front room downstairs that my boys and the lumberjack boarders lounged around playing guitars etc. Seemed a guy would get tired and just pass his guitar to another to play. Anyway a guy was going to show me something he had upstairs where all the men slept. The owners had a bed right at the stair well right out in the open where they slept. They looked like ma and pa kettle. They were sleeping head to toe! You had to walk right pass the foot of their bed to go upstairs!
The upstairs really was one large open loft. There were wires strung the length and width with curtains that seperated each boarders little area and bunk! It was a different day!
