Default 36-1 ?'s

I have a 3" 36-1 that a previous owner broke the hammer. I have had difficulty finding a replacement hammer for it. I have tried S&W but after ordering it they called back and said it was out of stock and out of production.

I cleaned up the break so it looks ok now and it functions fine, but I would still like to replace it any help would be greatly appreciated.

Also, has anyone ever done a square to round butt conversion? If so how difficult/easy is it?

I've never done the conversion you asked about but there are members up here who have so hopefully one will come up and post the how to up here.

On the hammer you could post a want to buy add up here on the forum in the classified section and see if anyone up here has that they would sell.

Doing a SB/RB conversion is a pretty straightforward proposition if you have a template to work from. I used a friend's RB gun to make a tracing, which I cut out and laid over my frame. Then I scribed the outline onto my frame, and got out the grinder. My last one took about an hour, using a bench grinder, then a Dremel to smooth it up and polish it.

If you'll go to Gunbroker and under parts & accessories type j hammer in the search box. There are a good many new, forged hammers on there for sale.

You could also try Numrich Gunparts & Brownells.

Remember these parts are not usually drop in, an will need fitting, if you don't know how, find a gunsmith that works on S&W's.
