Default Rooster Jacket vs. Alox (LLA, WLL-Xlox, etc.)

Which is better or has more uses? Right now I'm using alox, but the stuff is messy. Rooster Jacket may or may not be easier to use, I'm not sure? Any advice?

I used the Alox and other lubes in pans and tumble but that is messy...

The answer is a STAR sizer/lubricator, sizes bullets pushed thru nose first and lube is pumped into the groove where you want it...I use the Rooster Labs Red Zambini for my cast bullets with great results.

I also use the RCBS Sizer/Lubricator also for clean lube application and sizing, oh yea it make easy work to install gas checks.

From what I understand the Rooster Jacket was developed for lubing jacketed stuff...I don't use it!

Pardon the pun but stick with the alox and you will have little to no
leading issues like you can with the "crayon" lubes!

Default Red Zambini

Howdy,
This is another vote for the Rooster Red Zambini.
We used it in IPSC with light bullets and the old power factor in .38 supers @ 1200-1300 fps and it worked better than anything but jacketed bullets.
Good luck.
Mike

Rooster Jacket works fine for lower velocity target / plinking loads . It smokes less than alox . Precission Delta uses RJ as their " match lube " on their swaged bullets . If your looking for 1,000fps or more I'd stick with alox for dip / tumble lube .

LLA is superior to Rooster Jacket in my guns.
Take 500 bullets, pour in casserole pan, lay all bullets on their sides, squirt some LLA into pan, shuffle bullets around for 30-60 seconds. If all bullets are shiny/wet looking, then you are done. If all bullets are a golden brown, you used way too much LLA. If they aren't all shiny/wet looking, squirt in a little more LLA. Dump on to aluminum foil and let dry.
I have no idea where the mess is, but I sure don't know how to lube 500 bullets that fast or that easy.
Since I shoot as--cast bullets, I don't need to spend real money for a lubri-sizer (though I have my old RCBS unit from the early '70s).
You can put a second coat of oflube using Rooster Jacket, if tacky bullets bother you.
You can mix up some 45% LLA/45% Johnson Paste Wax or Minwax/10% odorless mineral spirits to give you the benefits of wax and LLA in one lube.
You can wear latex gloves if you don't want to get you hand "dirty." I find that simply washing my hands in warm water and soap is more than adequate.
The pan is simply covered with the aluminum foil and stored away.
No mess, no fuss.

I usually lube with White Label, and mostly with BAC (Beeswax-Alox-Carnuba) It's soft enough to not need a heater, and inexpensive enough to load a LOT of bullets. To compare, I like to try 45-45-10, and I mix it in a whiskey glass, set it in the bottom of an old cake-pan, and dip the bullet to the top of the lube-groove. I hold the bullet with my Leatherman, but any pliers will usually do. I then place the bullet upright in the cake pan, around the glass, and set the whole mess away to let it dry. In a day or two, I pry the bullets out of the "cake," which will be hard, and load them. This way I don't get lube all over my seating stem, which causes the bullets to be seated deeper and deeper. The die will still have to be cleaned from time to time, but not as bad as with straight Alox. There is nothing top stop you from using straight Alox, either.
Then the bottom of the cake-pan can be scraped with a putty-knife, or some such, and put back into the whiskey-glass. Later, a little mineral spirits will be used to restir the lube. I did some this morning, and will prolly load them tomorrow afternoon.
I'll load them with some others that I lubrisized with an RCBS and BAC.
Have fun,
Gene
