Default Horn

I looked over a collection of horns, today. Stopped by a shop on a round about ride home tonight. They had taken in a number of horns, some early... along with some pretty nice shooting bags and accoutrements. Small shop that does not take plastic, wife had the checkbook, and all I had was a little cash.

I will be back tomorrow, to buy the lot.

This is a fairly late period horn...but a nice form. Really curves and would ride high while hunting. A pounder, it was full of ffg when I bought it. Numerous repairs in it's strap, made me remove it. I will replace it soon.

A plain horn can be bought for as little as $40. They work as well as a $400 one. Antique originals with scrimshaw can reach many thousands ....

We don't have as much black powder shooting as we did several years ago. We have Dixie Gun Works in west Tennessee I live in middle Tennessee. There is no shops that have the older black powder stuff like horns rifles and pistols that I know of. Most all of it now is modern day guns for deer hunting. Don

PS Giz that is some great looking horns you have. You can tell a lot of work and craftsman ship went into making them.
