Default What is it?????

I was working on the other side of town this week and today went into a pawn shop that usually has some interesting guns for sale. Here is what I found today.

It is a five screw frame. I think it may have been reblued; the S&W logo looks like it was polished a little too hard. The caliber is not marked anywhere but a 38 spl round will seat in the cylinder. Looking into the cylinders, a round mark can be seen in all of the cylinders. I'm thinking it may have been a 38 S&W that was rebored to chamber 38 special. The serial number is V89330. Could this be a victory model that was cut down and reblued? Would this explain why the barrel is not marked?

Here are the pictures I took with my cell phone. The gun is marked $299 but they will let it go for 275 OTD. I’d like to know what you guys think it is and what it may be worth.

Thanks

Yes, it's a "rebuilt" Victory model. From your description it was a .38 S&W reamed out to take .38 Special. This can be troublesome, as 38 S&W is a larger diameter than 38 Special, and firing 38 Special in it can swell the cases making them difficult to extract and may have to be driven out of the cylinder with rod from the front. Also, you could have split cases causing gas leaks backwards. You should be able to still fire 38 S&W ammo in it, which is all I would recommend. For $275 I think it is still overpriced. Definitely reblued, cut down barrel, reamed chambers, incorrect grips, I wouldn't pay more than $150 for it and personally I wouldn't buy it at all. There are too many good K Frame 38's out there for that kind of money or just a little more.

Not worth it IMO.As already stated cut down refinished Victory, rechambered asking for a problem.Add more and get an unmolested gun.Its all about condition.

thanks everyone..I think I will pass on it.

They also had a gun modified the identical way only it has been nickeled instead of blued. Even had the same fake stag grips & the barrel was cut down exactally the same. Funny thing..when I asked if these guns had come from the same source the pawn shop owner told me no.

That was my first warning!

Actually, your FIRST warning was the sign outside that said "Pawn Shop".
