When Was My 29-2 Made And Are These Stocks Correct?
My 29-2 is serial # N 6232XX. When was this gun made and are these stocks with that speedloader cutaway correct for this gun? Thanks in advance, everybody.

SCSW shows that serial numbers: N600000 through N699999 were shipped in 1979-1980. I would guess that yours was shipped in 1979.
Not positive on the stocks. I am sure someone else will give you the info you need on them.

Those stocks probably have a date of manufacture ink-stamped inside of them. Lots of them do.
I don't think those are original, but could certainly be wrong.

Well, the gun was manufactured right about the time they were changing to the speedloader cutout from the older football cutout so, ..... they might be original depending on when the gun actually shipped, not when it was made. Like you, I would be a little skeptical of those being original to the gun but, it is possible.
Sorry for the vague answer.

Those are correct to the Model. Owned dozens of N frame adjustable sighted guns in the 70s and early 80s, they all came with that stock. Key words are: N frame, Adj Sights and larger than 38.

According to the Expert Commentary on the Forum, stocks with the speedloader cut out were introduced in 1983. So, if you gun is a 1979, those wouldn't be the original stocks.

I'll go ahead and quote the commentary. I have owned many N frames from the '70's larger than .38 with adjustable sights and they all had relieved target stocks:
Relieved ("football") Targets. Silver washer. 1970 until about 1982.
"Speed Loader" Targets. Silver washer. 1980 until about 1991, and infrequently thereafter. Often on L & K frames.
These are cut out for an enhanced clearance on the left side for a speedloader, the scallop exposes
the revolver frame. Late in this issue, the medallion washer was deleted and the medallions are more or less
force fit into a hole bored in the stocks and the 'alignment circle' is milled into the wood.

I am looking at the stocks that can with my 29-2(I am the original owner) and they have the football oval. The year was 1979.

I agree those are not correct.... I'm also the original owner of many N frames of that era.. The "Footballs" are undoubtedly the only style for that genre.

Thanks, everyone. This gun came in presentation case with Pachs and I just wondered if these stocks matched. Funny thing is, these stocks came on my 25-5 which I thought was an early gun from the late 70's. Guess I'll post that one to see the right birthday, too.
