Hi Bill, welcome to THE forum. Standard Catalog of Smith and Wesson shows that serial numbers: N800000 through N899999 were shipped in the years 1980 through 1983. I would guess yours shipped in 1980. Nice M29-2, I believe you will love it.

That's one great looking 29-2 that you bought there. If no one told you the fever and sickness for more N frames will soon follow or maybe you already have it.

The story from the gunshop is that the previous owner traded it for a late model 6" 29 because he wanted it for hunting. I had been considering that 6" for a few days, when I saw that this 4" was there, I snapped it up. I have a few other 4" Smiths.

Beautiful 29, I have the n 6" version. I'd love to add a 4" to the collection. Congrats!

Since no one else has offered, I would be more than happy to pick her up this Friday night. I figure dinner and a movie and I can have her home before midnight. That sounds like a nice first date, right?

That's a REAL sixgun! I have been known to complain probably too much about 4-inch 44 Magnums, but they are indisputably very handsome, and every S&W-man should have (at least) one. Congratulations!
