L frames without full under lugs, shoe them.
Has S&W produced any L frame guns without full underlugs?
I'm picturing a 66 snubby that you could shoot magnums in forever without worry.
If there is such a thing please show pictures. Has anyone had the lug milled off to achieve the same effect?

They made a special run of 5 inch barreled L-Frames with a standard underlug such as the M66. I handled one and it had a great feel to it.

The 4 inch Mountain Gun 686 looks just like a thin barrel 67 in the pics.

No picture, but I have a 620 which is a L frame without the full lugged barrel.

I'm obviously missing something here. Why would a full underlug be a detriment to shooting magnums in the revolver?

Just a weight issue. The Mountain Gun version is lighter and handier, yet still built on the larger L-frame.
Of course, the full-lug barrel does cut recoil effect.

I believe you are confusing the Models 66 and 67. The latter was a .38, without a barrel lug/extractor rod shroud.

Sir,
If I understood him correctly, I believe the gentleman was thinking of the much-discussed cracked forcing cone issue in the K-frames when he spoke of using magnums forever without worry. He would like the lighter weight of the partial underlug with the strength of the L-frame. But maybe I've misunderstood. I'll let him speak for himself if he revisits the thread.

@ Magnumdood- I think he only meant the difference in the k/l frames for extended magnum usage with the mountain gun appearance, using the 66 as a k-frame example.

What you are looking for is done for models 620, 686SSR, 627, and 586 L-Comp. Full size L frame with a tapered barrel.

Here's a pic of my 686+ Mountain Gun. It's a7 shot L frame that'll handle a steady diet of .357 Magnum ammo........
