Have an M&P 22? How do you like it?
If you are lucky enough to have gotten an M&P 22, let us know how you like it. How does it compare with other M&Ps? I am thinking of getting one to save on ammo cost at the range.

I like mine. Have several rounds shot through it. Very accurate.
Mine shoots well with Remington plated hollow points, Winchester plated hollow points, PMC Sidewinder. Did not like CCI Blazers. YMMV.

I like mine.
One thing I have found, at least for me, is that the sight picture seems to be 6 o'clock instead of a combat hold like my 9 and 9c. Not sure if anyone else has run into this or not. I haven't tried adjusting the rear sight yet so maybe I'll do that on the next trip to the range.

How long have you been waiting? I heard a big release is coming at the end of September but it could just be a rumour.

Last report from S&W customer service is that a shipment from Germany is coming in early November. Who knows how long they will last? My LGS says his distributor has 500 on order. See you in the spring.

I have been very please with my M&P 22. Last weekend at the range ran a box of Winchester 333 through it. Had 5 or 6 FTF. Fun to shoot only wish I had extra mags.

Walther P22 Characteristics.
I went out to shoot yesterday, after this weekend when I was having 1 out of 10 FTF, usually on the second shot.
I was shooting Winchester 36 gr cu plated hollow points.
I tried some Federal 36 gr cu plated hollow points yesterday with the same results.
After doing a Google search last night, I came up with a link about a trouble the Walther P22 was having in feeding hollow point bullets, and a solution to the problem, which entailed a little grinding and polishing on the entrance to the chamber.
Here is the link, with other links in it of course:
Walther P22 Review
Anyway, not very happy with it at this point.

Honestly, I hope this doesn't end up being another Walther P22 with a different "skin" in terms of overall reliability. I know .22LR is finicky with ammo choice, but some of the .22 options out there are pretty badly engineered!
One thing I am curious about with this pistol is how well it will work as a training aid from a holster, being that .22 is a lot cheaper for drills than 9mm...
On the flipside, the .22 looks like it has a thumb safety, which suddenly means it's a problem for my holster setup(s). Hmmm...

With my AA kits, they want to use the 40 gr bullet. I stick to CCI 22 ammo but if that is not available, will sometimes go with the Remington Golden. I picked up some Winchester and it seems to do pretty good. Will have to keep an eye out for one of these. Especially with a threaded barrel.

Upon further inspection of the chamber entrance, I do see where they did bevel the bottom on the M&P.
Pickey with ammo, I have to say yes. The hollow point on the federal bulk is kind of squared off, letting it catch on the entrance.

I went back to the Remington Gold and it shoots fine, even though a lot of people on here do not like it, being dirty that is.
I also picked up some CCI MiniMags, which I am sure will be fine, but cost a whole lot more.

Mine came in to my FFL yesterday. It has been on order forever. It was late when I got home, but I had already bought the 'Walther' adapter and quickly removed the threaded end and put on the silencer adapter. I loaded up 12 rounds of CCI subsonic and threaded on the AAC Element.
Went back to the woods and ran the 12 rounds through her quietly and quickly. No issues out of the box. At least for the 1st magazine load. This should be a really nice 'host' and a fun little gun.
I'll get some pics later.

Anyone know where they are in stock now?
Will full size M&P Crimson trace grips fit on the 22?

The grips are not interchangeable.

I didn't have any problems feeding ammo, it ate hp and round nose from the get go. I have put CCI, Win and Rem bulk through it.
I still get nasty leading if I put a lot of rounds through it. I got some copper plated CCI mini-mags to try this week. A lot more than the bulk ammo but still cheaper than reloads for the 40.

Picked up number 170X yesterday at my local dealer. My adult daughter and I ran 275 rounds of older Rem Golden bulk through it after cleaning and lube. VERY pleased with it. 1 ammo related issue (squib load). It runs great ! Better than I expected and I Definitely recommend this handgun.

I am very pleased with my M&P 22. It shoots great. With CCI round nose ammo functional reliability is very good. Accuracy seems good, but I haven't really done anything but plink so far. Fit and finish are very nice.
If pushed, there are three things S&W could fine tune - positive detents for the manual safety
- rounds can pop out of the magazine if it is slammed home on a locked slide
- the exterior dimensions are very close to my M&P40, but the 22 fits tighter in the holster

Got mine a few months back and I really like the way it shoots. No feeding problems and I have used standard and high velocity rounds. I would like to have seen them put changeable backstraps on them and the sights are a single white dot as opposed to my 9c and 45c's three dot sights. Also would have liked more than one mag. The gun is great for practice plinking and I think I could take a squirrel with it if I tried.

I have at least 5k rounds through mine... it so much fun I'm loading up on ammo from www.luckygunner.com, it’s a great source for bulk pricing… So far CCI mini-mag 40 grain rounded copper has been flawless. The only complaint I have is… one magazine!!!! S&W has really got to get this issue worked out.

I got mine early November, sn MP0022XX. I absolutely love this gun. It fits fine in my Blade-Tech and Don Hume M&P holsters and I use it for drills to save on 9mm ammo. It has about 1K through it. I've been using Federal bulk boxes and CCI Mini-mags. Both have worked without a hitch. I mean NO problems feeding, extracting or locking back on last shot.
I was hoping a Crimson Trace grip would work on it but the grip is a solid one-piece that is not interchangeable. I would also echo the complaints about the sights being a single front dot and black U-notch rear and only one magazine. The big problem with that is there is no place right now that will sell you extra mags so we're stuck it seems.
My dealer said he had waited for months for a M&P22 to come in. I walked in an hour after he took it out of the box and bought it. Just my lucky day I guess.

I just picked mine up for near retail (389.00 plus tax) but it was a local dealer so I didn't mind paying a few extra bucks.
I'll clean it tonight and hopefully shoot it on Saturday.

Unfortunately my M&P22 doesn't fit the new Safariland ALS holster I just purchased. That's a shame (and aggravation) because I LOVE this holster and will be carrying my M&P40 in it.
S&W needs to tweak the dimensions a hair on the 22 to ensure it will fit holsters made for the 9/40 guns.

Thanks for the tip! I'm going to look now.
My ordered one cost me $281, and I have another 6 .22's in the safe now, so I won't be inclined to overpay by much though...

Wow! Where did you find an M&P22 for $281? I paid $379 + tax for mine.

I'm thinking that might have been one of the 22A models, not the M&P 22. Looking at the site and their prices, it would seem unlikely they had an M&P 22 at that price available to the general public. There's no reason to sell such a scarce, new on the market gun $100 below street price.

I'm thinking I'm wondering why you would question a guy that bought the gun.
I buy at first responder prices as many on this forum do.

As my posted indicated, I seriously questioned that price was one that was available to the general public. You should have been clear that you purchased the firearm at a special discount as provided to those in your field.

As my post indicated, I paid $281. Why I paid $281 was never asked. To say I don't know the difference between a 22A and an M&P.22 is an insult.
That said, the indication that I bought it from a police supply vendor is clue two.
And I stress, many people qualify as 'first responders'. I am not a LEO, a bodyguard, a fireman and don't work security. Yet I qualified and you may also. I think it's worth the look to see if you do.
The offensive post was where you completely discounted my information as being wrong and uninformed. You should take your 'serious questioning' and seriously question why you would pay more for an M&P.

There is a police supply S&W and Remington dealer in my neck of the woods. I asked them if they sold to the public, and they replied yes, they just don't advertise to the public. They have enough of a problem keeping up with their police sales.

I have been putting Federal Champion bulk through mine now and it shoots and shoots without a hiccup. No more leading so thanks to those folks that recommended the copper plated bullets.
I guess it didn't like the greasy lead ammo. Thanks guys.

I think you're being overly sensitive. Your lack of transparency was simply confusing to others in this post. I simply stated that 1)you either bought it a special price not available to the public at large or 2)you might be confused as to the exact model we were discussing. As you confirmed, I was correct.
I've seen more than one person mistakenly think a reference to the M&P 22 was referring to the M&P 15-22. It's neither a stretch nor an insult to think you might have thought we were discussing one of the other S&W .22LR caliber pistols. The M&P 22 is after all very new on the market - many people don't know about it.

Slide material ?
Does anyone know if these have aluminum or steel slides ?
The Walther P22 and Sig Mosquito have alum. which I don't care for

I believe the Walther P22 uses a MIM based upon zinc. The M&P 22 uses an aluminum alloy, according to the specs on the S&W site.

I have an M&P 22 on order. I went with it because I believe the aluminum alloy will hold up better than the zinc of the P22. I have heard of some P22s getting hairline cracks after several thousand rounds.
I'm not an expert in metallurgy and would welcome any to step up and clarify the differences between the zinc MIM and the alum alloy as far as durability is concerned.
I want the 22 for the less expensive target practice but mostly for my wife to get into shooting and get comfortable before moving up to my 9mm.
