Default Krylon Dual Satin Finish

For those of you painting your furniture on your 15-22's, I had to throw this out there to you. I have an old beat up .410 New Haven Bolt Action Shotgun with a cracked stock and decided that I couldn't really hurt things worse than they were. I sanded down the wood stock and filled in all of the dents and dings and attempted to fix the cracked stock by filling in the cracks with some epoxy. After sanding it down for the final time, I painted the stock with forest green Krylon Dual Spray Paint and Primer all in one satin finish. Absolutely beautiful finish! It looks and feels like a brand new synthetic stock and the cured paint feels rock solid. I'm regretting the Krylon Fusion that I painted my grip and stock with on the 15-22. It's just too smooth, almost makes the 15-22 look fake and doesn't seem to hold up like I thought it would. In the coming weeks, I'm going to sand down the stock, grip and fore end grip and give these items a new coat of the Krylon Dual (if I can find a sand or desert tan). I think I've found my go to paint for all of my outdoor project and the 15-22 is next in line.

As for the .410, my crack repair did not hold up. It cracked again as soon as I tightened the stock screw up. From all of my reading, this is a design flaw with the New Haven. However, after a thorough cleaning (which it has probably never had in the past 30 years), it functions like brand new and with the exception of the crack by the stock screw, it looks like a brand new gun. I see them on Gun Broker all the time for $75 - $100 and might just invest in one strictly for the stock. At this point, it is such a fine functioning gun that I might pay to have the stock repaired at the local gun smith or I may even take the stock to a furniture repair shop and let them have a go at it.

Gallery — KrylonŽ Dual™ Paint + Primer

May have to check this stuff out for painting my black mags FDE. Probably will have to go with their Satin Almond...to get close to FDE. Thanks for the heads up.

Okay, now I need help. I definitely am going to repaint my furniture. I know I want the satin finish, but I'm limited. Wally World had the Brown Leather, but only in gloss. I guess I could clear it with satin clear, but I'm not sure that brown leather will look good with OD Green. Wish I was good with photo shop and I could decide allot easier. Suggestions please!!!!!!!!!!!

You could check Home Depot... I found that NutMeg or Dark Taupe or a lighter Taupe worked. Dark Taupe was just a tad brown for me so i dusted over it with Camo Kaki to dull and lighten the color....There are some nice green Forest green out there. Also at Home Depot i found Oregeno green, its a good match for moss type green that you find on bark of trees...I just finished my 15-22 in a Woodland Marpat with a touch of Multicam.. I'll post pic when i get a chance

Insofar as the repair of the cracked stock, have you considered repairing the stock again, and then using a metal threaded bushing inserted into the stock screw hole? Perhaps that might relieve the pressure on the stock as you tighten it down, and prevent it from cracking again. Or does it already have the bushing? In any case, you might go online in your area for a gunstock specialist. I just hate to replace original stuff if I can fix it myself. Good luck.
