I've seen that brochure in boxes from the 1930's. I believe it is too early for that box but others will know better.

Hi Larry,

I see I'm a little late responding!! Sorry, but that is one of the Pre-War Variations!! The upside is that it will be good trading material for the one you're looking for!! The "Helpful Hints" Brochure that Misty (gunlovingirl) posted is the Correct One!! The one you acquired with the Box is in Excellent Condition!!

Good Luck!!

Thanks gunlovingirl and Masterpiece. I think I will hold on to this pre war version just in case. I am trying to put together a box, paper, and tools for a K-22 # 4339 K, large knob, that was shipped 9-23-1947, my 5th birthday. I think the hardest part to find was the original nox-rust paper.I have the SAT and cleaning rod. I do need a 98% box and period "Helpful Hints", also a mop and brush. Ebay is a good source of this stuff. My K22 is a good 98%+++ and was well taken care of. Thanks again to all who helped or will help. Big Larry

Larry,

Superb Revolver!! You're right!! You "Do" need a Mint Box & Paperwork to house that Revolver in!! I don't remember you posting a Photo of this Revolver before!! Did you just acquire it lately?? It's surely a Fine Early Post-War Masterpiece!!

Bought it at the Reno show 8-2010. The box looks like it was run over by a Mack Truck. I did post many pics earlier. This is the gun that actually got me interested in "K" S&W's, although I have some 33 S&W's of all kinds. I also have a minty 1953 K22 with factory target hammer. I like em, but I really like the early K38 with the standard bbl. I have one from 1948 and one from 1949. No one liners yet, but I will get one someday. Thanks, Big Larry

Larry, there is a place on the net that I came across that repairs old cardboard boxes. Not sure if I can find it now but perhaps a Google search will turn up something. I have never used them and have no dog in the hunt so I only offer it as a thought. They show some before and after photos and the work looks fantastic. The finished boxes looked brand new and the before boxes were quite rough. No idea on cost, but it might be a viable alternative if you have an original box and wish to bring it back.

If I can find a link to the shop, I will post it.

Hi and thank you very much for this info. I am not big into restorations so I think I will just wait until a nice box comes up for auction. I have seen several near the condition I need and they usually run about $150. I just have to get lucky at the auction as these K22 boxes are highly sought after. This is not a "must have", as I do already have a beautiful revolver and that is the most important part of my collection. Again, many thanks for the information. Big Larry

You may just want to ask how much they would charge to fix yours as $150 gives you quite a lot of cash to work with. There is only one original box and if you have it, you may be better served putting the $150 into it. Just a thought.

Should you contact them, update us on cost and details.
