S&W Model 41 - 5"
I have an older S&W Model 41 that has a 5" barrel. Serial # A1331XX.
1. When was it made.
2. Is this slide/barrel a variation?
THANKS.

Thanks.
It also has a cocking indicator that I don't see on newer models.
Is this model sought by collectors?
What is likely price range for one in 98% condition, without box or papers.

The original 5" barrels are going for premium prices of around $400 just for the barrel alone today. The cocking indicator is also preferred by the old timer crowd, me included. My guess is your pistol should bring $1100-$1400. Matching correct box, papers and cleaning tools would add to the value.

I'll give you $800 for it.
It's worth what someone pays you. I think the 7 3/8 barrel is much more desirable, but the heavy 5 1/2 is nice too.

Fired a 41 to-night myself.
Was at my gun club this evening and fired a clubgun which is a model 41. My papers arrived to-day in the mail for me to pick up my 46 I bought about 10 days ago which I am really looking forward to owning. Its coming with 2 mags and the extra weight with it but unfortunately no box or paperwork but for $400.00 in mint shape I won't cry too much at all over that fact. Probably get to pick it up this weekend I hope as I know I will really enjoy shooting this one for sure. Its the 7" barrel model which I believe is worth more actually.

Congratulations on scoring a Model 46 at a great price. I hope is the later version with the radius cut slide if you plan on shooting it.

46
Thank you for the knowledge as I do believe it is the newer model as it has 45427 serial no.. Hope to pick it up this weekend and I knew going in it was a heck of good deal. I have been researching the 41 for quite a while after firing the one at our club. I wonder if Smith an Wesson have a website to date your toys by their serial no's. It would be nice to get the paperwork and original style box for it but I can live without it if I have to. If it shoots half as good as my 22A does then I will be extremely pleased for sure. I only shoot bulls and 10's with it which amazes me for the price of it. Other then the spring wearing on the weak side once after about 6000 rounds its been great to have. For $5.00 it was a easy fix for sure. I also have 2 Berretta's and a Norinco 45TTapc. which is fun to shoot as well. I know the age of all of them with the exception of this new one as the others are all fairly new or bought new by me.

Your 46 should have the later curved/radiused (where the rails meet the slide body) slide. Should be fine with std. velocity stuff, but NO HOT ammo.

No hot ammo
I usually only fire Winchester Express V amunition thru all of my 22's which is only 40 grms I believe. I seem to have no problems hardly at all with this type. Its also the best price up here in Canada as well where I shop which is a bonus for my pocket. My 22A and my Berretta's all fire well with it. I see more problems with virtually all other makes including the Federal ammo then what I have with this.

Winchester V ammo
I stand corrected in that this ammo is actually only 36 grams which seems to work very well in the 46. I was down to my last box so bought 2 more to-day and purposely read the specs on it. For the price its been very good to me for over 2 years now in all my 22's. Yes I do get the odd squib but not any worse then some of the others including Federal no less but a lot cheaper. Cil is not available in my area it seems so I never get to try it out at all.
