Default New Model 60-4 and more...

Here's a few pics of the new 60-4 3" I picked up yesterday. It has the chromed hammer and trigger and the serial number is BKR89xx (don't know date it was born) It's in really great shape and I can't wait to shoot it. The square butt rubbers have "Smith & Wesson" inside them and I am guessing are original.:

Someone put silver paint on the front sight...not sure how to get that off:

I also have a 686-3 in 2 1/2":

and a 66-2 4":

Here's a family picture:

Here's the problem....It's the classic, "the ship is sinking and I can only save one child" impossible situation.
I have bills to pay and you know the rest of the story. I am going to have to sell some guns...I can't have the assets just sitting in the safe right now. So I will be keeping only one of the above beauties. Help me decide which child to save! This is much more difficult than I thought it would be....

Dude. You are between a rock and a hard spot.

The 60-4 is a handy dandy little gun. Keep it.

The 686 is a heavy duty magnum shooting short barreled rip snorter. Keep it too.

The 4" model 66-2 is plain vanilla K frame and more replaceable than the others.
Sell it and pay your bills.

Good luck
Allen

I don't think they are original. Pachmayr molded that inside all their grips. Your serial BKR = 1992.

My Model 60-4 came with Uncle Mike Rubber grips, not the Boot type. It now wears the S&W wood.

Thanks for the suggestions Allen...definitely noted. That may be how this shakes out. Great looking bananas on that 60!

Good info Photoman...and thanks for the date.

Very nice look Bronko...those grips rock.

I shot the 60-4 yesterday with both regular and +p ammo.
I must have been doing something wrong because I couldn't hit anything.
I shot the same ammo in the 686 and hit almost everything I aimed at! I was hoping I could handle the 60 better than that...maybe it's an ammo issue? (that's what I always say when this happens).
After shooting the 686 a few times now it sure seems like the keeper in the bunch! I was surprised how manageable the 357 stuff is out of that 2 1/2" barrel too. The extra weight sure helps.

Thanks for looking...

Was it shooting low? The rear sights are all the way down against the frame. What ammo did you use? Single action or double?

Good eye Photoman! It was shooting low but I was keeping the same hold and going for grouping. Most all shots were single action.
I was using Walmart stuff
WWB Personal Protection 125gr JHP
Remmington 130gr mc

I am definitely open to some ammo (and any other) suggestions for the 60-4...it's such a cool little gun.
They are definitely two ends of the spectrum...as my son said...the 60-4 looks like a friendly little guy and the 686 snubby looks mean.

Thanks for any input!
