USAF Model 15's
We carried the S&W Model 15's back in the late 80's. I know they were bought by the AF in the 60's, but mine was a great pistol. As I was seprating they were switching to the 9mm. Does anyone know what the AF did will all of the Model 15"s?
Thanks

Probably all torched , crushed or melted down.
Even in the good old days , the AF has never surplused it's firearms the way the Army & Navy did.

I don't know
about them destroying. One afternoon in the WSa we opening a bunker that hadn't been used by the SAC side of the base and had been used by the TAC side. We found cases of rifles and side arms that were stored in there and forgotten. The guys at CTAM said they were being sent to depot for repair and reissue. This was old stuff.

There are very few whole guns on the civilian market and quite a few (pieces) that have been through the demil process. Since the government keeps such excellent track of its property ( ), there may be a bunch in some storage facility somewhere, but if they are found today they would be scrapped.
