Ali was The Greatest. He had Smokin' Joe outclassed talent-wise, but as far as just pure class, Smokin' Joe wins in a unanimous decision. Ali acted like a cruel child in the way he taunted Joe out of the ring.
RIP Smokin' Joe.

Boxing and America has lost a great one. After the Frazier, Ali, Foreman, Norton, and Holmes era, boxing went from the greatest show on earth to a freak show.
Thank you Joe.

Absolutely true. That was one helluva fight. Unbelievable.
Frazier exemplified "heart" -- a great, great boxer.
RIP.

Those Ali- Frazier fights were among the absolute best heavyweight bouts of all time. I met Ali on 5th. Ave in NY back in the 1970's. He was a really big guy, like a refrigerator with feet! He was very nice, very polite and friendly. But I have to say I alway's rooted for Smokin' Joe, even when he later fought (and lost) to George Foreman. Joe Frazier had a left hook that could rip your head off.
A friend of mine bumped into Joe in Philly a couple years ago, literally. The Champ wasn't a very good driver in his later years, and his car collided with my friends at an intersection a couple of blocks from Frazier's gym. It was a very minor fender bender....I said, "But hell man, you got to meet Smokin' Joe Frazier and will have that story to tell forever." He wasn't a finesse fighter like Ali, but man he was all about bringing it to his opponent. RIP Champ!
Cheers;
Lefty

RIP Smokin' Joe, you will always be the Champ, by any standard to me.
I guess for many years Joe held a grudge against Ali for the way he "teased" and made Joe look like a smuck but had recently made up with Ali and forgiven all.
A sad day.

You'll probably want to turn the sound down, but watch at about 2:30 to see the left hook heard 'round the world.... and by Ali.

I would like to add that Joe was also a real gentleman outside the ring. I have heard storys about him stopping to help people on the side of the road and other things like that.
An all around good guy.
Rest in peace Champ.

For you old timers, and for you youngsters who don't know what we are talkin' about, the Thrilla in Manila: Muhammad Ali vs Joe Frazier Thrilla in Manila 1975 - YouTube
Been reading the obits. Joe at one point said something like, "Where would I be without Ali? But also, where would Ali be without me." So true.
