Recently got a nice 5 screw, pre-14 with a red ramp sight. From the serial number it looks like a 1950 gun. It has a red ramp sight and it got me thinking as to when this sight was first used. I couldn't find the answer in the S&W 3rd. book, so I thought I'd ask. Anyone know when the red ramp was first used and in what model? Thanks.

I believe the red ramp was available in 1950, if not earlier. It is listed in the centennial catalog of 1952 and probably could be special ordered for a target model revolver.

FWIW I have a late 4-screw pre-17 with a red ramp. I have not lettered it to see if it shipped that way, but it looks original.
