I didn't notice this before as I've only took it down a couple times for cleaning but this looks rather odd and not too happy about it. Ideas as to what this is for. I think there's reason to believe it was a foul up in the metal injection process and I may be in the market for getting a EGW slide stop it appears. In this sort of pistol at the price they command, this part should have been rejected.

That's probably the sprue point for the injection/pout into the mold. There's almost always a slight trace. The standard practice is to put the thing somewhere where it doesn't affect function or life of the part.

I'll pass on price/quality. I've been real unhappy with mainspring housings lately.

Yup, I'm guessing this is a MIM part and that's a void or injection point. I bet there's a big bucket of slide stops on the assembly line and none of them get inspected. Just grab one, throw it on the gun and pass it down the line.

Hello. I have a new SW1911SC and have only put 50 rounds through it so far...I like the pistol and the way it feels in my hand and really like the way it shoots but have a question. I must drop the magazine after racking the slide before I can release the slide stop lever to allow the slide to move forward. Is this normal for this firearm or is there something wrong with mine?

If your magazine is empty, the slide catch has to overcome the spring weight of the magazine spring when you attempt to push it down. I'm not certain why you would want to do that with an empty mag in the gun. Using a loaded magazine, pushing down on the catch serves only to release the slide and does not take nearly as much force. So if you are asking if it is normal for the catch to require much more force to release with an empty mag in the gun, the answer is yes.

I'm still on my 1st cup of coffee, so I'm not ready to dig my E series out of the vault.... seems I remember that is the norm for this model. When the slide is locked back on an empty mag. it cannot be released unless either the mag is removed or there is a round in the mag. Ok... I can't pass this on unless I know for a fact... going to dig my E out... ok, got it out. It does not release at all unless the mag is released. I dropped a loaded mag in and it releases.. guess I may have to take it to the range tonight.. hope this helps.

Appears to be the normal point of entry for the mould. Sometimes the sprues are flatter. Nothing to be concerned about since it does not influence the pistols function.
