Well that would be a pretty rare piece as S&W didn't make a 5" 29-4. Are you certain it isn't a 6"?

Pictures always help in any attempt at estimation attempt.

Issues include originality, box, papers, stocks, etc.

Page 200 of the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson, 3rd edition, shows the 29-5 (1992) as being the introduction of the 5" barrel, however page 201 (bottom right) shows that the 5" 29-4 was manufactured for Hill Country Distributors in 1989. Only 500 were manufactured. So this version is fairly rare. I would estimate (actually guessing would be a more accurate term) the price in the $850 to $950 range depending on the condition, as well as if the gun comes with a box and papers. I am basing my estimate on a a combination of the values shown in the SCOSW and a 5" 629-4 that I sold a few months back. My 629 was in excellent condition, and included the box and papers. I wouldn't think there wouldn't be a big price difference between the blued and the stainless finish, but can't say for sure.

bronx - welcome to the Forum!
Since you have the original box, what is the product code and barrel length listed on the label?
The five inch full lug barrel didn't start until the dash five.
It could be mis-stamped or had a barrel change

In my opinion, $895.00 seems to be a fair price for a version of the model 29 with a limited production run of 500, although it never hurts to make an offer of $850. The worst they can do is say no. Again, I'm quoting the SCOSW 3rd edition, they show the product code for the 29-4 with a 5" barrel as 101249. You may want to verify the product code before you buy.
