Default S & W (?) PPK

Saw a blued PPK at a gun show today. It had the usual legend for US guns on the left slide, but on the right all it had was "Springfield, Mass., LLC. Is this an early S & W gun, or a transitional gun? It also had the short tang rather than the longer ones used on current S & W PPKs. Anybody know what these guns are, and are they any good? The man was asking $425 for it.
Thanks

My S&W PPK/S is addressed Houlton, ME, shipped in a Walther Box. Was one of the ones that had to be sent back because of the recall. That's all I can help you with.

I ca't help you directly but if an answer is gotten here try the Walther forum, experts there for sure. If you aren't a member I could ask for you. Certainly interesting!

Default S & W (?) PPK

This question has been asked several times before. The answer is, it was made just prior to the S&W pistol made in Houlton. I have one and it is a fine auto.
