I picked up a three inch 629-2 yesterday that has a very high polish stainless finish. It looks like a 29 that has a great nickel finish. It is that bright.
Seeking any info about it as it came without a box so I can't confirm it as a factory finish.
The serial # BBF68XX. Maybe a distributor run?
I really appreciate any insight on this.
Shipped about July 1988. Can't help you with the finish. Hope that helps.
Thank you sir! That is more info than I had for sure.
Here are a couple of poor quality pics I just took.
It came with some very nice factory combats but I switched them out for these Spegel boots.
I have never seen a 629 new with a high polish. Given that its so easy to do, there is a distinct possibility that it has been polished.
Your best bet, if you just have to know, would be to "letter" the gun to see if it was an (unlikely) special order.
Thank you for weighing in. I too have never seen a new factory high polish example.I have seen a few that were polished but they were not the quality of this one. There is no sign of a different finish in the hard to get at spots. No over runs in the matte surfaces. Really well done finish regardless of origin.
The BBF prefix had me wondering if it was factory code for bright finish?
Thank you again for the info from both of the posters.
