Default Model 29-4 questions

Hi.

I just bought (on impulse) a model 29-4 and was curious about the age and if the stocks were original.

The guy I bought from was selling it for his Dad. He says his dad bought it about 20 years ago from a gun store just down the road. It has a Hogue Monogrip on it. Is this factory?

Also, the serial number (as best as my eyes can read) is BDY7xxx.

It appears to be in very good shape with one scratch along the lug. It's finer than frog hair and about an inch long. I gave the fellow $550 for the gun (no box), 98 rounds of ammo and a Blackhawk cowboy-style holster/belt combo.
Fair price?

The pic was the one he sent me. I'll definitely take better ones soon.

Thanks.

Edit: The deal is a little less sweet. After further review, the holster/belt combo is not a Blackhawk, but a Viking made for the Ruger Blackhawk. I didn't buy the gun because of the holster, so I'm good.

It was shipped in 1989, probably around April.

I was thinking it wasn't too bad.

I live in a very small town and I found it neat that in just a month, I bought two 44 Smiths from their original owners.Too bad neither one of those fellows thought to keep the box.

Here's the 629-3 I picked up a few weeks back:

Any insight on the Hogue monogrip? Taffin's write up states the HM was a change for the 29-6, but the owner supposedly bought this gun new. In what year he bought it new, I don't know. The gun shop may have switched stocks with another gun.

They certainly are addictive! I had just bought the 629-3 only about 4 weeks earlier.

I was at the local pistol match Saturday and was talking guns with a former coworker when he mentioned his Dad having one he wanted to sell. One thing led to another and, well, you know the rest.

Edited the OP with my own pic.

Thanks for the help, guys!

Nice find!
I bought one of those new and it came with a Hogue monogrip which was used on the 29-3 Classic Hunter as well.. The grip frame is square and this is the model that was called the Classic Hunter. It's the second edition of it, the first being a 6".
I have made a few changes to mine but it's a great revolver.

Welcome to the forum.
