Default Mag-na-Ported MGs

This probably sounds silly, but after looking at pictures on the auction sites, and here, I'd swear that most of the 629 Mountain Guns are ported. Anybody else ever notice this? Even my 629-2 MR "Safe Queen" is ported. I'm sure there wasn't a factory option for it in the olden days.

MagNaPorting was more popular right around the time those guns came out. My father had his ported and I had a few other guns ported. If I were doing it now I wouldn't.
It wasn't a factory option on the 629-2 Mountain Revolver.

A very few Performance Center guns and a few others for specific distributors
such as R.S.R. , Camfour , and Lew Horton came from the 'factory'
with Mag-na-port ing.
To my knowledge there has never been a Mountain gun (revolver)
from Smith & Wesson with factory Mag-na-port.

Just as Joni Lynn states this was a popular option , and to some degree,
still is for hard kicking lighter guns in magnum calibers.

This Performance Center model 13-4 from 1995 came with quad
Mag-na-ports ,,

The 66-4 in the left side of this picture from the same timeframe
is a special for R.S.R. 1996.

There were also Performance Center model 625s in 45 Colt and 44 Magnum that were Mag na ported also for R.S.R. distributors about 1999.

I knew it was a popular aftermarket addition, I'm just struck by how many of the lightweights were ported. My safe queen was done after the first shooting. After it returned, it was taken out again, and the guy still didn't like it, so it got put away for about another fifteen + years, then traded off.
