What's your DAO 9mm carry gun?
Was looking at a S&W 3953 the other day and really like that it's a DAO with no side controlls. But don't like that it has an alloy frame.
What do you carry in a DAO?

Since this is the revolver forum, it would have to be my 547.
It's DAO because of the trademark stubby hammer spur

Sorry S&W. I do love my S&Ws but I carry a Sig 229R SA/DA but as far as I am concerned it is DAO as that is all I ever use. I know it isn't the best for concealed ( Big & Heavy ) carry but I can shoot it well and have confidence with it.

If I carried at all I'd carry a .40 instead of a 9mm for a variety of reasons chief among them is bigger/deeper hole.
I don't carry because its seems to be a lot of trouble and my body shape does not lend itself to something hanging around my waist. I've not had the need to shot anybody for the last 71 years and will probably make it a few more years without having to do so. Hopefully when/if I do it will be with the short barreled shotgun setting beside my bed.

Fav S&W DAO 9mm? My only DAO 9mm is my 3953 and I do like it's size and weight.
That said, when I choose my carry I must go with my H&K P7M8. It's buffered slide permits me to put my follow-up shots on target better than any of my many other 9mm autos.

A Ruger SP101 often. A S&W 4053 sometimes in cooler weather. A S&W 4586 on rare occasion.

I have three true DAO pistols, two Sig P225's and a Sig P228. My S&W #5946 is listed as DAO but there is no repeat pull on the trigger. All four of these guns have very consistant trigger pulls. The S&W is all stainless steel. It is a weapon even when it is empty.

When I carry a 9mm in a pocket holster, it's a PM9. My duty and EDC is a GLOCK 19.
But don't overlook the very excellent KAHR P9. It's an outstanding compromise that fits right in between the PM9 and the 19.

Mine is a Ruger LC9 with XS Big Dot Express Sights and a Hogue grip sleeve. A very good combination of power, weight, and reiability.

Whats your concern with the alloy frame? You won't wear it out and the weight savings makes it about the best CCW ever produced by anyone.

Nice call gto36CID, after all, it is a revolver category. I'm stickin' by my 547 though!!! Post a pic so these auto lovers can see what a real 9mm carry looks like (for a revolver category that is). Otherwise, we're just going to have to suggest this thread be moved over to another category

My wife carries my 940 no dash and if I'm carrying a 9mm it is my Kahr MK9.
*UPDATE 4/13/14*
I no longer own a Kahr.
It has been replaced w/ a S&W Cheifs Special 9D.

I tried the M&P Compact (yeah, I know it is not technically a DAO, it actually being striker fired), but I had light strikes on new factory ammo. So, I went back to other brands: For pocket, Ruger LC9, a little bigger, Glock 19 or HK P2000 LEM.
M&P has had too many issues with light strikes and mags jumping out of the pistol and other problems. Too bad as I really wanted to like that model series.
The 3953 is a great and reliable pistol, but as it is out of production, I am not inclined to use it for carry.

Prefer 147 gr in a revovler, no worries about bullet shape or feeding. Going to try out some Remington Golden Sabre soon actually.

Actually, glad you did it. There's a lot of interest in 9mm revolvers and I'm keep trying to keep it alive. If the auto crowd and the revolver crowd can come together maybe S&W will bring back 547s and 940s or something similar. By the way Whodat, nice 547!

I had a 3954 years ago and loved it. It was flat, slick, good trigger and 100% reliable. I stupidly traded it off and have regretted it ever since.

My favorite 9mm carry gun is a 940 too. In fact it's the only 9mm I own. It will shoot a 147 gr. bullet at 1080 FPS from its 2" barrel, which is as good as it gets for this bore size.

DAO's
The 9mm DAO would be this 6946.
DAO Revolvers (since 'tis the revolver section) would be one of these...usually the Ruger next up the 642-1
or when I occasionally feel like retro-man the .38 S&W
