Hi again guys. I've managed to attach the front 'traditional triangle' sight securely, but it overhangs about .33" over the rear of the rail. The front and back sights Mack recommended were very expensive. What other sights might y'all recommend? More affordable. The sights I DID buy and install are= front: UTG #750; rear: UTG MNT-950 Model 4/15. The exact rifle I bought can be seen at this site/link:

I would appreciate y'alls taking a look as, in my AR ignorance, much of what Mack mentioned was 'Greek' to me. Are the sights in a dangerous position? Is the front sight rear overhang a problem?

Troy BUIS are my choice.
Second option would be from Magpul.
The overhang should not matter for function, but you may look for a flip-up style to fit the gas block better
Many here would only use UTG gear on an airsoft.

The utg's are probably fine, if u could post a picture, that would help. I'm assuming they are metal, sights from magpul aren't, and NOT recommended for your metal gas block, which is what your front sight mount is on your m&p 15 or (optics ready).

They are indeed metal. But now I've a 50/50 recommendation for the UTG sights. The magpuls are inexpemnsive flip ups, which would be good to have if in the future I put some optics on the rifle, but are indeed plastic and so are out. I'm of half a mind abou returning the UTG and getting flip upsof some kind as I said optics may be in my future. No plans but who knows, you know? Anyone know cheap-ish flip ups? Metal? Can you or I guess should you mix and match brands? Front sight must be metal.

Only the front sight has to be metal to withstand the heat radiating from the gas block.

Using a MagPul rear MBUS flip up sight will be fine. No such heat on the rear rail.

Troys are the benchmark in flip up battle sights. Knowing that, decide how much sense it makes to cut corners on them. Std, came with the rifle sights are usually fine but enhancing an "Optics Ready" model with troys is my preference. You could save a bit by putting an fixed troy on front and flip up on the rear. Unless you use a really long telescopic site, the front won't interfere with the scope. It won't be visible in anything over about three power either.

Second choices for me would be Yankee Hill or Midwest Ind. but the price difference is small enough to stick with Troys, IMHO.

And, if you are scoping it, a front post sight apparently won't be noticed through the scope at all. I was concerned about this with my M&P 15A, the question was asked and answered by many.

As for that UTG front sight, It appears to be identical to the one that comes on the M&P 15-22

BTW, I know UTG was initially designed with airsoft guns in mind, but they advertise all the time in Guns & Ammo, tactical gear and accessories.

I appreciate all y'all's help. I've decided on a Troy folding front sight and a magpul folding rear oce I'm satisfied they both look OK, one being plastic the other metal and that they function well together. I am also awaiting an e-mail from Troy people about the length of the sight as the UTG one overhung and this I want to avoid atc.
