Oscar night party
So what are you guys cooking for your Oscar party?????
I'm thinking of Sesame rounds with a pecan crusted brie as an appetizer- crab cakes with a nice crawfish sauce for the main course with steamed asparagas. A nice warm spinach salad and a couple of bottles of a nice Chardonnay will round it out nicely. Papaya chunks, melon balls and sliced kiwi fruit for dessert with a little strawberry yogurt dipping sauce.
So what are you guys doing???

Only Oscar I can remember was a short necked pilgrim from Oklahoma that went thru basic training with us. He flunked out so became an officer later on.

Well Caj,
Since Sunday's are still feast days in Lent, I plan on cooking up a mess of crock pot ribs with a good dose of horseradish, some corn on the cob (frozen in the shuck since last summer), squash casserole and what ever my wife wants and whatever the children, grands and great grands bring over, as long as they bring some sour mash scotch whiskey, the older the better!

I just love to watch all the beautiful people with perfect teeth, hair, clothes, and opinions pose for the cameras. They contribute so much to society I'm just in awe of them. When an actor says we need to help the poor people of Giveusahandistan I just can't get to my checkbook fast enough. But we'll watch it. Because Billy Crystal is great at hosting it.

I'm going to the store to look for some chickens with TWO LEFT WINGS to bar-b-q in honor of them. Much more BAR TIME to be able to stomach the deal though.

I'll be having whatever they are serving at the Oscars. But everytime I go, they put me at Clint's table and he always steals my dinner roll.

I think I'll watch reruns of "The Walking Dead." Not much difference between the walkers and the Beautiful People except the BP probably smell a little better (unless it's Matthew McConehey).

I think he was one of "the odd couple" but it's been many years since I had a TV & I may dis-remember not so good.
When my last kid left the nest, I told him to be sure you take that noise box with him.
Instead of a TV, I have a 'life'!

Ya know, years ago I was down on the Bayou. I was hidin' in an old deer camp cause it was the off season. I'd noticed a little distance away there was another recluse tryin' to duck out on some charge in the next camp over.
One day the feller came over to invite me to a party. We'll, I hadn't been seein' much of anybody for months, so I says OK. So I told him to wait while I put on my city clothes. He said no need. Then he said he better warn me, there might be some drinkin'. So I says "I like drinkin". Then he warned me there might be some dancin', so I says "that'd be OK'. And he says there might even be some nekkidness, and I said "OK, I went to a strip bar once." So I said OK, let me take a jump in the creek. He said no need to pretty up, its just goin' to be me an you.
And that's how I met Caje.

All the so-called modern "stars" have ruined hollywood IMO - can't really get past who they are and what they represent in real life (well 99% of them anyway.) Haven't been to a movie in maybe 10 years (I think my last was "A Beautiful Mind".)
What other industry gathers every two weeks (it seems) to give each other awards - hilarious & absurd.

We've actually been out recently. Just before Christmas and then 2 weeks ago. To see the same movie! No stars, it was OmniMax and the Rocky Mountain Express. The star was the locomotive 2816. She was purty!

I too believe that such occasions call for a more sophisticated decorum than one usually presents. I believe I shall buy wine in a bottle for Oscar night.
Maybe sit on a corner and drink it with some friends?

With any sort of luck, I will have had dinner well before that trash pile assortment of hams come on and be asleep on the couch. For the party, the main course will be dog chow. I let my older dogs watch the awards, only because it seems to improve their otherwise geriatric bowel function.
Cheers;
Lefty

I was gonna make some snide remark about Oscar parties and riding Mardi Gras floats in nothing but chaps & feathers. Then I saw something about crab cakes. I have a pair of water buffalo chaps around here with python trim. What time should I show up?
