Default 10-5: Not perfect, not quite ugly

I recently won this 10-5 on Gunbroker. I’d been looking for a Model 10 I could shoot without worrying too much about the finish. This one already had pitting in front of the cylinder and on the barrel. Otherwise, though, it really is very nice. I was a little surprised when I saw it in person. The stocks are great and there’s no holster wear that I can see, anyway.

Though I came up on the polymer side of S&W firearms, I’ve owned and enjoyed a 4” Ruger GP100 for a couple of years. With this purchase, I wanted to add something to the range rotation that was a little different than the Ruger or my plastic handguns; a blued, snub nose S&W revolver.

I took it to the range this morning and put 100 rounds through it (please excuse the white out I added to the front sight to help out my aging eyes). It functioned perfectly (always a relief), though I think it will take me a while to shoot it accurately. I must say it really has a very nice trigger.

Maybe someone knows the year of manufacture. The serial number is C8355xx.

I’d love to see other flawed beauties out there that members may have.

MY model 36 no dash has plenty of flaws. It has spent a LOT of time in a bianchi holster. It shoots good and is tight as a drum.

This gun has some booger spots on it but I turned them away from the camera. The bob job on the hammer was not the most artful. I tend to sell a gun if I am not using it much but for some reason I keep this one.

I bought a Browning that was like your Smith - surface rust and pitting on the barrel. Since then I acquired another pristine Browning and decided to remove the rust and reblue the first one. After a bit of work and learning how to blue a gun, I finally got the old Browning to look almost new. Now I buy old abused guns and fix them up a bit. I just bought 2 police trade in S&W revolvers to keep me busy on these cold days.

Model 14 that is pitted on the outside from someone storing the gun in a leather holster here in humid Florida; however, super shooter at 15 yards, offhand.
