Our son got onto a local department that carries the 40S&W M&P. I got to shoot it shortly after they issued his and was pretty impressed with it.
I need to qualify that a bit, I do not shoot striker fired handguns all that well. Give me a HAMMER TO DROP!
Well, as usual, I had to run out and get one for myself. What I noticed right away, after having a Glock 22RTF and loading for it, was that it has a fully supported chamber and standard rifling. Now, listen, that, is a win/win with this caliber.
We wanted to make a load that duplicated his carry ammo. What we settled on was a 155gr Berry's plated truncated cone bullet over a full charge of Hodgdon Longshot. Low pressure and lots of velocity!
With an OAL of 1.125", this load develops over 1250fps from his firearm. I haven't run it through the chronograph out of mine yet.
Pretty accurate as well. @ 7 yards, two handed, off hand, and shooting as fast as I could reacquire the target, I kept all 20 rounds in a paper plate sized target. I know there were times when I had 3 cases in the air at the same time. My wife was shaking her head!
Now for a mould and sizing die for my Star Magma sizer.
Just wanted to share! If you load for one, feel free to tell us your experience!
