I've been thinking about buying a tablet. Not set on a brand yet. From the research I've done, seems like each has some limitations: available apps, processors, ability to accept external storage (SD cards), etc. Just about all brands want to lock you into their own stores for music, books and apps.

So here is my question: if you are using a tablet, what did you buy? Are you using it regularly to surf the internet and to post? What does yours do best? Has it replaced your desktop or laptop computer? Finally, what is your brand recommendation for someone else buying a tablet?

Wife has an Ipad and it is starting to impress me. She's had it about 6 months and hands it to me while I wait for her medical appointment or shopping. It's growing on me and I may get one myself. It works off of Verizon 3G and is fast. The screen and virtual keyboard are easy to get used to. Same bookmarks as your computer.

Open the wallet, let the moths fly out, then buy yourself an iPad.

I've never been a big Apple fan, but I got one issued to me from work. It won me over. My wife got me a leather bound Bluetooth keyboard for it and now, I rarely use a computer for anything.

I had no axe to grind initially, but was VERY fed up with MSDOS. They (wife, daughter) got me an iPhone and I was very impressed with the surfing abilities on it. Got an iPad2 64g for Christmas, and love it. It just works! I find old out of print books, play here and generally have a good time. Highly recommend it.

Ipad,rarely use my laptop anymore.

I have a Kindle 2 and an iPad 2. If all I want to do is read books without pictures, I prefer the Kindle because it is smaller and lighter and the battery lasts for weeks if you turn off the wirelss.

But for anything with pictures, e.g., books with illustrations or photographs, maps, newspapers, what have you, the iPad is far superior. Plus you can watch TV shows or movies. You can hook it up to your main TV and watch movies that way, too.

For me, it has replaced my computer for home use, web surfing, emails, streaming or stored music, audio books, etc. I bought a bluetooth keyboard for extended typing, but I use that very rarely. I bought a bluetooth minispeaker which I use a lot for music, because the built-in speaker is tiny and hence not very good.

Since Apple just came out with a new iPad (post iPad 2), it should be a very good time to buy an iPad 2. I have read that in the US Apple sells used and reconditioned iPads, which I should think would lead to a very good deal.

I have no experience with other tablets.

iPad 2, don't even use the laptop anymore. It just sits there all closed up on the desk, lights flashing. Had the iPad and the wife took it over so had to buy a new one. I have a wireless printer now so I just print from the iPad too. It does sorta remind me of the etch a sketch too, maybe why the don't make it in red.

Though pricey, an iPad is your best option. I am not a Mac lover by the way, but I give a nod to quality when I see it. The new iPad ("iPad 3") is coming out this month, and iPad 2s are dropping in price $100.

There are many Android tablets on the market to choose from, but none are as refined as an iPad yet. You can also consider a Kindle Fire. While not as feature-packed as an iPad, the price point is much lower.

If all you want to do is browse the internet on a beautiful, sharp display with a device that will be stable and reliable, iPad all the way. You will also love the plethora of apps and features on this product if you choose to explore them.

I love my iPad, surf all the time with it, goes everywhere. I tend to travel with the iPad, rather than my notebook PC these days. So much more convenient than my laptop. The keypad is a little more limiting, and I don't tend to post as much with it, but I still do... Only other thing with Apple is no Flash.

The tablet won't replace your laptop, but you will use it a lot more to surf. I do think Apple has the best tablet available.

I use the iPad2 for surfing and email. Do have a Mac as well but since getting the iPad it doesnt get much use.

All of my apps, Internet favorites, music, photos and videos are automatically synced between all,of my Apple products. Love it!

It really depends what you want to do with it. Tablets are really convenient as you can take anywhere your phone or wireless network works but limited in software. There are many apps but the more powerful programs (like CAD programs) have yet to appear. If you want to just read books and simple games then most tablets will work.

My simple tablet (android) can read Amazon, Barnes & Noble and Google books through an app. Developing apps is an entirely different story.

Wife was quite content with her MacBook Pro until we got an iPad.
Last time I seen the MacBook Pro it was collecting dust along with all the exercise equipment that we just had to have.

I bought my wife a Motorola Xoom. I've used it a few times on forums and it works fine, especially with the Tapatalk app.

I still need the laptop and desktop for other purposes, like office apps, taxes and reading/burning disks.

Looks like Apple is the hands down winner on this board. I was leaning that way since I did not want to convert all my itunes music to another format. When held in the hand the iPad reeks of quality. Not as much with the others. Only thing I don't like about the iPad is the inability to expand memory via a SD card.

I have a Kindle Fire, which is just perfect for reading ebooks -- much better than the basic Kindle I was using previously. I have looked at the S&W forum on the Fire, and it is easy to read. The photos can be enlarged easily for detail inspection. I can't recall actually posting a reply through the tablet, but I don't like virtual keyboards where you have to tap on glass. I will still use a desktop or laptop for most posting.

I've been thinking about getting an iPad just because so many people say they are cool. I may wait a few months for the current hoopla to die down over the new one.

REALLY east to use too.

I'm on my EVO 4G phone, which is really a small Android tablet. This is the most useful tool I've ever owned.

Google maps, and quickbooks online are the shizwizzle.

Love my iPad. Find myself using PC and Laptop less frequently.

In my "office" I use my iMac and anywhere else I use either the iPad2 or my iPhone 4s.

I tried smoke signals, but with burn bans, windy days and the drought it's just not reliable!

Using a kindle fire. My laptop died the day after I got my fire, haven t missed it. Only problem with the fire is the key board, it s taking some getting used too.
