Default Teddy Roosevelt reading

Just finished TR's account of navigating uncharted territory in South America, titled "Through the Brazilian Wilderness". A magnificent read by a true adventurer. TR's writing style is engaging and eloquent ... he was a learned naturalist and born outdoorsman ... and he details the harrowing journey with humor and expert analysis. This book was a great compliment to another TR offering I recently finished: "The Rough Riders" ... If you like TR, then these two books are required for your personal library.

I've read both of those and agree wholeheartedly!

Thanks for those recommendations. Recently read "The Big Burn" by Timothy Egan. It was my first run-in with Teddy. What a guy, a true wilderness guy, founded the Forest Service, boxed with Gifford Pinchot, fished, hunted, loved to camp out, it's fascinating to think we had a fellow like that as President. Seems like his personal adventures were neverending. Can we bring him back?

I am reading "African Game Trails" now. It is an interesting read, but his racial comments clearly mark him as a man of the 19th century. The descriptions of various hunts, the animals and locations, make this a very enjoyable book.
